Anne Bradstreet is America’s first poet, and the first woman to be published in the United States of America. Anne Bradstreet was actually born in England. Anne, her parent’s, and her husband sailed to the United States in 1630. In 1650 Anne’s brother-in-law published her poems in London and then in the United States. The title of her first book of poetry is “The Tenth Muse Lately Sprung Up in America, by a Gentlewoman of those Parts.” Anne’s poetry is a testament of the Puritan faith in response to the hardship of life in Colonial America.
