within a living being, or anything that corrupts

3. ⢠Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused
by SARS-CoV-2,[7] a virus closely related to the SARS virus.[8][9][10]
The disease is the cause of the 2019â20 coronavirus outbreakâŚ.
⢠The disease is caused by the virus severe acute respiratory syndrome
coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), previously referred to as the 2019 novel
coronavirus (2019-nCoV).[9] The virus is thought to have an animal
originâŚ
⢠The morphology of the SARSr coronavirus is characteristic of the
coronavirus family as a whole. These viruses have large pleomorphic
spherical particles with bulbous surface projections that form a corona
around particles. The envelope of the virus contains lipid and appears
to consist of a distinct pair of electron dense shells
⢠The SARS-related coronavirus is a positive-sense single-stranded RNA
virus belonging to a family of enveloped coronaviruses. Its genome is
about 29.7 kb, which is one of the largest among RNA viruses. The
virus has 13 known genes and 14 known proteins. There are 265
nucleotides in the 5'UTR and 342 nucleotides in the 3'UTR. SARSr-CoV
is similar to other coronaviruses in that its genome expression starts
with translation of two large ORFs, 1a and 1b, both of which are
polyproteins.
⢠SARS-related coronaviruses follows the replication strategy typical of
the coronavirusesâŚ
⢠The virus has a lipid bilayer envelope where the membrane (M),
envelope (E) and spike (S) proteins are anchored. Inside is
the nucleocapsid and multiple copies of the (N) protein serving as a
shell for the positive-sense single-stranded (30,000 nucleotides) RNA
genome. The capsid, membrane and lipid envelope protect the virus
when it is outside the host.
5. Signs & SymptomsâŚ
⢠The WHO has published several testing protocols for the disease.
Testing uses real time reverse transcription-polymerase chain
reaction (rRT-PCR). The test can be done on respiratory samples.
Results are generally available within a few hours to days. Blood tests
can be used, but these require two blood samples taken two weeks
apart and the results have little immediate valueâŚ
⢠Those infected may either be asymptomatic or
develop symptoms including fever, cough or shortness of
breath.Diarrhea or upper respiratory symptoms (e.g. sneezing, runny
nose, sore throat) are less frequent. Cases can progress
to pneumonia, multi-organ failure, and deathâŚ
⢠The incubation period ranges from 1 to 14 days with an estimated
median incubation period of 5 to 6 days according to the World
Health Organization. A study found rare cases where the incubation
period was as long as 27 daysâŚ
⢠According to WHO, based on analysis of 44,000 cases of COVID-19 in
Hubei province, around 80% of people have a mild form of the
disease, 14% developed more severe disease such as pneumonia, 5%
have critical disease, and 2% of cases are fatal
6. Treatments
⢠There are no specific antiviral medications approved for this
disease. Symptoms are managed with supportive care. Both
the WHO and Chinese National Health Commission have
published detailed treatment recommendations for
hospitalized patients with severe acute respiratory infection
(SARI) when a SARS-CoV-2 infection is suspected.The WHO
also recommended volunteers take part in randomized
controlled trials for testing the effectiveness and safety of
potential treatments
⢠Infected individuals may experience distress from
quarantine, travel restrictions, side effects of treatment, or
fear of the infection itself. To address these concerns, the
National Health Commission of China published a national
guideline for psychological crisis intervention on 27 January
2020(by NLP).
⢠Chinese health authorities recommend the use of traditional
Chinese medicine (TCM) in addition to standard medical
supportive care to prevent or treat the disease. On 22
January, National Health Commission put TCM into the third
issue of the COVID diagnostic and treatment plan.

Is the author seen as an expert on the topic? How do you know?

How current is the information in the source?
When was the source published?
Is the information out-of-date?
Accuracy:
Is the content accurate?
Is the information presented objectively? Do they share the pros and cons?
