with FME

2. Who is ADM(IE)?
 L1 Headquarters organization based in Ottawa
 Acquire and dispose real property and advise
RCN, CA, RCAF, and base/wing on real property
 Manage major AEC activities across the CAF
 Provide situational awareness to DND
 Responsible for reporting assets to TB, EC, OAG
 Large consumer of spatial information
 Corporate systems and business flows not yet
geo-enabled
3. DND Real Property Data
 Base/wings and ADMIE are spatial data
producers:
 Buildings, Roads, Utilities, Security, Environment, SNIC, RTA
 Legal boundaries, surveys and zoning, National view
 Outside data sources: Provinces, FGO, Oil and gas industry
 Need to fuse information from many producers
and formats to be able to get big picture:
 How many buildings does DND own? How much land does DND
occupy?
 What is the condition of these assets? How old are they?
 What is their replacement value?
 Does the RP portfolio support the current and
future mission of CAF?
5. FME Usage at DND
 Current FME Desktop usage:
 General data translation
 Fuse corporate data to spatial data for DFRP reporting
 Read legacy data (Intergraph, CAD) into geodatabases
 Planned future implementation:
 CAD to GIS migration
 BIM support
 GIS to CAD output
 FME Server for enforcement of data standards and transfer of data from
base/wing or area level data marts into central data warehouse
