Selleys Yates APC Policy for reviewing new and existing packaging. Policy encapsulates Goal 1 in the Selleys Yates
Action Plan, in which it entails creation of the SPG template for the systematic review of the new and existing packaging
against the objectives of the APC.
For existing packaging, the policy provides details of listing and categorizing by group type for review (KPI 1.3 &1.4) and
from there a timetable to review the existing packaging categories will be established according to market volumes and
environmental impact. Potential packaging environmental improvements will be identified in this review (KPI 1.6) and
action upon.
Regarding new packaging all will be reviewed using the SPG template and potential environmental improvements will be
identified (KPI 1.8) and action upon. The SPG template is embedded in the NPD stage gate process to ensure all new
packaging is reviewed prior to completion of the project (KPI 1.10)
Please indicate your progress this year towards achieving your annual targets and milestones for KPI 1

existing packaging has been established, and distributed
to packaging and procurement for use. The policy outlines
the review process and will facilitate the systematic
auditing of each group type against the objectives of the
APC, audit the recycled content of existing packaging and
opportunities to increase this content, and instigate that all
plastic packaging/components have the appropriate
plastic identification and disposal information.
Formulate Selleys Yates specific SPG policy and template
for the review of existing packaging.

. From this list the packaging type were categorized
based on material/uses. The 7 categories are Fibreboard,

Detailed waste/recycling audit completed at the Selleys
Padstow site in which finished goods and raw material
packaging accounted for 10% of the waste stream during
the audit week. Action in place for recycle initiative for
bulk bags. Recommendations on regulatory compliance,
cost reduction initiatives and a push for a waste
management plan was highlighted in the survey to identify
further waste reduction opportunities including
product/distribution packaging.
A waste identification and quantification pre audit was
done for the Mt. Druitt facility, and as a result of the pre
audit a full site survey was not required due to the
significant progress that this site has made with regard to
its significant waste streams. Main recommendation in the
pre audit was to identify recycling opportunities for raw
material bag, as raw material bags account for 54% of
mass to land fill. The site has a policy in place in which
there is a process for regrinding and reusing under
specification plastic product to manufature lower grade
polymer product.
The Wyee manufacturing facility was not selected to have
a waste/recycling survey as it has the lowest waste to
landfill per ton of production figures comparatively to the
rest of the Selleys Yates and Dulux manufacturing sites
(approximately 1.1 kgs of waste per tonne of production,
0.1% yield loss)
Conduct detailed product/distribution packaging recycling
surveys at each manufacturing site
1.
Post consumer packaging survey was done in conjunction
with the waste/recycling audit at the Padstow and Mt
Druitt site. Padstow site had categorised post consumer
packaging into the "Others" category which makes up 3%
of the waste stream. Mt Druitt site audit identified
consumer packaging in general waste, which makes up
12% of total waste during the audit.
Conduct detailed post consumer packaging recycling
survey at each manufacturing/office site.
