Critical reflection question 3
Critical reflection question 3
 As my music video was based on women and transgender issues and their
empowerment, thus my target audience were mostly women of age mostly from the
South Asian culture.
 We also conducted a survey, in our audience survey me and my partner we both
wanted to makes questions which can help to show who our audience is and what
do they think about the two issues we were working on that are Women issues and
Transgender issues, and what they are mostly interested to see in the music video
and what type of music video they prefer.
For the survey questions we both wrote a few questions that we can use and wrote
it down a paper and discussed them together. Though we cut down some questions
and finally made a survey with 10 questions which asked about the audience
gender, age, there perspective about women representation in media, transgender
rights, also what type of music video they prefer watching etc.
 We also posted it on social media like instagram and facebook even whatsapp to
reach wider audience.
 The target audience was mostly Female, which wasn't a surprise as most men are not interested
in social issues concerning women, which is why awareness about these issues should be
spread, mostly in Pakistan as its a highly male dominating society. So our target audience is both
men and women, both should be made aware of these issues so they can be avoided in the
future.
 The age of our target audience is from 15-17 to 18-25, this is the age where teens and young
adults are into watching music videos, as they have more free time in hand, which is an
advantage for us as this range of age is going through change, they are judging between the
right and wrongs in society, and so their views can be altered easily.
 Out target audience is interested in a hybrid music video, which involves all 3 types of music
videos, Performance, narrative and conceptual. These types of music videos, are the most
interesting to look at as they have a lot going on in them, and a person never gets bored, and
from the age of our audience we can see that teenagers and young adult now have a very low
attention span.
 Looking at the responses from our target audience we can tell that are educated as to what
women are going through in the media, and how this needed to be corrected, we got some sexist
comments too, so we know now that those mindsets are the ones which needs to be corrected.
 A high percentage of music videos here are from the pop genre, which shows what our target
audience is interested in, most of the videos talk about issues too like Billie Ellish, Lorde and
Jennifer Lopez. The visuals in these music videos are very conceptual, and thats what we will try
to do.
 78% of our target watches music videos online on youtube and 10% on social medias, it can be
interpreted that the targeted audience is from the high upper class and medium working class of
Pakistan as they are the ones that can afford an internet connection. The target audience also
relates the lyrics of the song to its video, which means that the video should portray something
strong and powerful according to what the lyrics depict.
 I also created a website for the upcoming artist, the site includes merchandise,
album, music video, photos, and information about the artist and also the social
media platforms that the artist is on. Seeing as the target audience would
primarily find out information from social networking sites like Facebook,
YouTube and Instagram, the site hyperlink would be promoted on these social
media platforms that I have created for the artist
 Also I provide an email to contact the artist and for the audience to share their
experience like any issues they faced and become part of the Equality For All
campaign.
 Also we made a Digi pack so the audience can buy the CD and listen to the
audio songs.
 Thus these stated ways also helped to engage with the audience.
 Also we used the uses and gratification model as explained by Mc Quail how
audience use media for their own needs like entertainment, information,
surveillance etc. thus they could use the music video to understand the social
issues in Pakistan as well as happening around the globe and also help and be
a part of the campaign to bring change.
 We also used the cultural effects model which states how female are represented in
a stereotypical way and shown as sex objects especially the films or music videos
directed by Male directors thus we also break that stereotype and the model and
represented women as strong and confident and ready to fight for change as well
the transgender that are mostly ignored by the media, we also represented them to
give the audience information about them.
 Also by posting the music video on the video sharing website, "YouTube". As
YouTube is a social media site, this means that the majority of my target audience
will be able to be accessed through this site which will therefore increase the
popularity of the music video as my target audience will share the music video on
other social networking sites where their followers will share on the music video
again and again, this is called the Two Step Flow Theory.
