2. Ground Rules
• Although this lecture is based off of principles from an order
of Ancient Benedictine Monks, great care will be taken to be
inclusive, gender neutral, and secular (when possible). No
specific religion is recommended; rather a call to listen to
something bigger than yourself.
• This lecture assumes all agree to the principal of the Golden
Rule and commit to its practice.
• The author recognizes multiple, legitimate, alternatives paths
to God; and the recognition that some people will also reject
this.
• This lecture in no way is meant to Proselytize; but rather
suggest rules of how you can conduct yourself. It is not to
force your will on others; or my will onto you.

The voluntary binding of oneself under oath to obey superiors in a religious institute, or a confessor, or spiritual guide.
From http://www.catholicculture.org/culture/library/dictionary/index.cfm?id=37149
We may think we are free from the troublesome duty of obedience, but in our daily lives we have to obey many forces greater than ourselves. We ‘obey’ train timetables, the weather, and the tax collector. Put in its best light, we also obey those whom we love, because moment by moment we listen to them and give ourselves for their welfare.
Benedict’s PROLOGUE
Listen, O my son, to the precepts of thy master, and incline the ear of thy heart, and cheerfully receive and faithfully execute the admonitions of thy loving Father, that by the toil of obedience thou mayest return to Him from whom by the sloth of disobedience thou hast gone away.

According to The Holman Bible Dictionary, the word translated “obey” in the Old Testament means “to hear” and is often so translated.
In the New Testament, several words describe obedience. One word means “to hear or to listen in a state of submission.” Another New Testament word often translated “obey” means “to trust.”
