Milton Berman, CTO of DIDI (Digital Identity for Inclusion), will talk about this DIDI. A project led by the NGO Bitcoin Argentina with the support of the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) Lab, Accenture, and RSK.
Technological changes happen faster today and populations with less access to the digital world can be excluded from new opportunities if there are no specific actions to promote their digital inclusion. To reverse this situation, the development of a digital identity is one of the most decisive elements.
Like in other large cities of Latin America and the Caribbean, social inequalities, inside those cities, are exposed in the lack of access to public and private services, or in the higher costs of acquiring them, which is known as the Penalization of Poverty. While there are several causes that explain this penalty, one of the main causes is the existence of imperfect information: when the market, does not have information about the identity and behavior of people, it can not include them or does so at a higher cost. All this affects the quality of life in a special way of these people who need these benefits.
The objective of DIDI, is to reduce social inequalities, the penalization of poverty and to promote financial inclusion of these populations, identifiable worldwide, but above all, in Latin America, where DIDI will do its first steps, facilitating access to quality goods and services. The first DIDI pilot will be launched through the development of a self-sovereign identity (SSI) platform in the Padre Mugica neighborhood, Ciudad de Buenos Aires, Argentina.
This platform will be based on open standards for public blockchain networks and SSI standards to achieve a social and economic system, naturally inclusive and decentralized.
In this talk, Milton will tell us about how the diverse daily interactions of citizens, financial and non-financial, formal and informal, will begin to form a reliable and verifiable profile of any person or entity, guaranteeing the information privacy and its control by its owner.
