Operation Zarb-e-Azb was a joint military offensive launched by the Pakistan Armed Forces on June 15, 2014 against militant groups in North Waziristan, including the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan. The operation aimed to counter militancy in the wake of a deadly attack on Karachi's airport for which TTP claimed responsibility. Over 30,000 Pakistani soldiers conducted intelligence-led operations, destroying militant hideouts and infrastructure. The operation received widespread political and public support and helped displace militants, though 82 soldiers were killed and hundreds injured.
2. INTRODUCTION
OPERATION ZARB-E-AZB(sharp and cutting) is a joint military offensive being conducted
by Pakistan Armed Forces against various militant groups, including the Tehrik-i-Taliban
Pakistan (TTP), Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Jundallah, al-Qaeda, the East Turkestan Islamic
Movement (ETIM), the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) and the Haqqani network
The operation was launched by the Pakistan Armed Forces on 15 June 2014 in North
Waziristan (part of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas along the Afghan border) as a
renewed effort against militancy in the wake of the 8 June attack on Jinnah International Airport
in Karachi, for which the TTP and the IMU claimed responsibility.
The operation was launched by the Pakistan Armed Forces on 15 June 2014 in North

Part of the ongoing war in North-West Pakistan, up to 30,000 Pakistani soldiers are involved
in Zarb-e-Azb, described as a "comprehensive operation" to flush out all foreign and local
militants hiding in North Waziristan, The operation has received widespread support from the
Pakistani political, defence and civilian sectors.

4. PM Nawaz Sharif announced peace negotiations
With TTP and first session held on 26 March
2014, But TTP wanted Shariah law in the
country.
This peace-lock suffered a dead lock when TTP
attacked on Karachi airport that lead to the
killing of 26 civillians.
After this attack , Pak Army got prepared to start
the major operation.

communication equipment, and other
logistics facilities used by terrorists have
been destroyed; uprooting their ability to
attack as a coherent force,” the ISPR said.
“A total of 2,274 intelligence-led
coordinated operations across the country
have been carried out to avert any blowback
of the operation and 42 terrorists have been
killed and 114 hardcore terrorists detained
in these operations.” It further said that
since the start of the operation 82 Pakistani
soldiers have lost their lives and 269 were
injured.

• UN assured Pak for providing assistance to IDPs
WAY FORWARD
After the execution of the operation the control of FATA will be given to civil
authorities
After the operation New schools, roads, communication network will be built to
ressetle the IDPs
