Toolkit Goals
SOVT is creating the local program Fundraising Toolkit to accomplish the
following goals:

 To provide opportunities and resources for local programs to raise
money to support athlete growth and development. Fundraising
supports equipment, uniforms, training space, transportation,
competition fees, etc.
 To raise community awareness about Special Olympics Vermont
and local athlete involvement.
 To create opportunities for athletes to be engaged with the Special
Olympics movement beyond practice and competition.

4 / Special Olympics Vermont
SOVT Development Priorities
• Create a Board culture that reinforces its central role
in development.

• Create individual giving strategy that focuses on
major gifts.
• Implement, manage and further enhance SOVT
donor relations and stewardship system (Little Green
Light)
• Build sustainable fundraising events platform.

Revenue Sharing:
Law Enforcement Torch Run
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is a global campaign by law
enforcement and public safety departments/agencies to raise funds
and awareness for Special Olympics athletes. LETR is not a single
event but a year-round movement including a variety of fundraising
vehicles.

10 / Special Olympics Vermont
Revenue Sharing: LETR Tip-A-Cop
Law enforcement and
Special Olympics
athletes partner with a
local restaurant and
collect tips as they work
alongside the wait staff.

Revenue Sharing:
LETR To Serve and Protect Day
Irving and CircleK have teamed
up with Special Olympics state
programs throughout New
England to raise funds. Local law
enforcement and SO athletes
team up with participating stores
to pump gas, wash windows,
greet patrons, and request
donations. The participating local
program will receive 100% of
funds raised through the event.
In 2013, 9 programs raised a total of $3,300

Leveraging SOVT
Resources
“Special Olympics spreads compassion and acceptance in a way that
can unite the world. Our goal is to awaken everyone -- and every
community -- to each person’s common humanity. Understanding brings
acceptance; acceptances bring peace. This vision of inclusion starts at
the local level. It's expanding on a global scale.”

16
Leveraging SOVT Resources
Yes there are rules:
7.04(i) of the SOI General Operating Rules: “All authorizations granted
to a sub-program to conduct fundraising activities within its jurisdiction
shall be in writing, and shall comply with the other requirements of
these General Operating Rules and other Uniform Standards. Every
Accredited Program shall be responsible to SOI for the manner in
which all fundraising activities are conducted by its Sub-Programs.”

SOVT is here to help spread the word about your
fundraising event! The more information you share,
the better equipped we are to promote your event
and help bring more dollars to your Local Program.

  1. SOVT is in the process of developing a new Fundraising Toolkit to help Local Programs build the income side of your budgets. SOVT aims to provide the necessary tools to support our current athletes and to build local programs. We are going to talk about the existing revenue sharing opportunities, hear from some coaches and program coordinators who are having success with fundraising events, and brainstorm some additional processes that will simplify some of the program coordinator’s responsibilities. The Toolkit is a new and living document. We are researching new processes as we make the transition to accrediting Local Programs under the SOVT name. We look forward to hearing your feedback.
  2. Outline of the sessionEncourage people to register to access the portal. There are other cool and important documents and announcements there too!
  3. LIZAReference budget and acceptable expenditures from Wendy’s session.SOI operating rules ensure that no SO athletes is ever charged to participate and that LP’s events must be approved by SOVT.Goals are in line with SOVT/SONA/SOI strategic plans
  4. Tweak our revenue pie to reduce vulnerability. Establish anchor events.
  5. Matters Within an Accredited Program's DecisionPrograms within its jurisdiction; the methods and projects which will be used by that Accredited Program and/or by its SubPrograms (if any) to raise funds within its jurisdiction; and generally, any other matters concerning the organization, conduct or financing of Special Olympics programs within its geographic jurisdiction.
