4. Genres vs culture
• Women lamentation in India is a genre that does not exist in English
speaking societies
• And what one might think of as the same genre may differ from one
culture to another. A funny joke in France may not go off so well in
the US and vice versa.
5. …..
• Haiku originated from Japan, Sonnet from England
• A limerick is a form of verse, usually humorous and frequently rude,
in five-line, with a strict rhyme scheme of AABBA, in which the first,
second and fifth line rhyme, while the third and fourth lines are
shorter and share a different rhyme.
• Limerick is gender specific (Mastung- taok baazi)
• When females first entered academics, they faced resistance to their
right to deliver lectures
6. Difference
• Females, in past, were mostly inclined towards novel writing than
poetry
• Females are discouraged for writing poetry or more exclusively love
poetry (Eva-B) (Andlib Gichki)
7. • Richard Bauman (2001) shows how street vendors in a Mexican
market adapt their sales cries to new situations, for example creating
more internally elaborate cries for the sale of luxury items. While
sermons, university lectures, and parliamentary debates were almost
exclusively male events a century ago, they are now more commonly
female events as well -- and quite possibly transformed as a result.
