In the travel industry (especially for the US), there is no formalized process to become a travel agent. This means there is no national board exam you need to pass, no state certification requirements. That can be great—anyone can break into the industry regardless of education, finances, or location. On the other hand, anytime ‘anyone’ is involved, by default you get a wide range of capabilities. Translation: You’ll have some really unqualified people calling themselves travel agents.
As an Independent InteleTravel Agent, I am committed to bringing the level of professionalism, attention to details, and commitment to continuing education and excellence that I have demonstrated throughout my medical training and career.
I come from a large family of people in the travel industry and was an "airline brat". As a lifelong globetrotter, to date, I've visited over 24 exotic countries, several on more than one occasion, including:
• England, France (2x), Spain (5 wks), Portugal (3 wks), Switzerland, Yugoslavia (Serbia)
• Canada (lived), Mexico including Baja Mexico (6x & lived 3 mos)
• Belize (3 wks), Guatemala
• Jamaica (6x), Barbados, Haiti (3 wks), St. Lucia, Grenada, Martinique, Turk Caicos
• Ecuador (including the Galapagos), Brazil including the Amazon (2x & lived 2 mos)
• Ghana (2x), South Africa (including Kruger National Park; 4 wks), Egypt
• India (5 wks), Indonesia (including Bali, Java, Komodo Island, and diving the Maluku "Spice Islands"; 3 wks)
Although I'm relatively new to the travel industry as an agent, my partner and mentor has over 10 years of experience. Moreover, InteleTravel, the original at-home travel and host agency, has been in business since 1992.
As an InteleTravel Agent, I have access to incredible "Hot Deals" on cruises, hotels, flights, car rental, and other exclusive vacation packages and added bonuses that can't be found through other agents or even directly from the cruise lines!
