and testing auxiliary systems for nuclear power plant - Knowledgeable in operation of overall
reactor plant procedures - Proficient in reading and comprehension of mechanical and electrical
diagrams, performing routine valve upkeep and reconstruction on steam, hydraulic, pneumatic,
and water systems, as well as emergency repairs on high energy systems, and frequent
cleanings of heat exchangers and oil filters - Experienced in shipboard dismantling and
reconstruction of berthing spaces, requiring familiarity with large and hand-sized power tools – 2
½ years experience on shipboard fire team, 6 months as fire team leader.
TRAINING:
Naval Nuclear Power Unit Charleston – Moored Training Ship-635 Sam Rayburn
Hands-on training in operating mechanical systems aboard MTS-635 Sam Rayburn, as well as
developing fundamental knowledge of the interlinking between electrical, mechanical, and reactor
subsystems. Emphasized strict compliance to procedure, and creative thinking to identify
problems.
Naval Nuclear Power Training Command – Power School
Learned reactor theory, principles, design, physics, material science, thermodynamics, heat
transfer and fluid flow, chemistry, and mechanical and electrical power theory in a rigorous
training program.
Naval Nuclear Power Training Command – ‘A’ School for Machinist Mates
Studied pipe work and tubing, valve construction and layout, heat exchangers, air compressors,
pump theory, and turbines theory and design.
EXPERIENCE:
US Navy 2008-2012
CVN-73 USS George Washington Aircraft Carrier stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. Machinist mate
in Reactor Mechanical Division. Served as Feed Control Watch, providing constant supervision of
the Main Feed system, and Steam Generator Water Level Control System. Designated Coolant
Generator Watch, in charge of manually throttling coolant flow to the Generator’s oil and air
coolers, monitoring turbine speed, bearing and condenser temperatures, the safe running of
Turbine Driven and Motor Driven Fire Pumps. As Main Feed Pump Watch, oversaw the safe
running of three steam turbine driven Main Feed Pumps, motor driven Main Feed Booster
Pumps, and the steam driven positive displacement Auxiliary Feed Pump.
Assisted in qualifications of 30+ watch standers by providing under-instruction watches on
multiple watch stations.
Qualified in the acquisition, safe handling, secure keeping, proper use and disposal of
hazardous material, and well trained and practiced in procuring proper MSDS paperwork,
and how to read it.
Provided meticulously prepared safety tag outs for multiple mechanical systems, ensuring the
safety of all maintenance men working on the system during two Selective Restricted
