Dear Human Resources Recruiter:
I am interested in obtaining a position within the correctional industry. I believe my past work experience,
training, and personalexperience have given me the skills needed to complete assigned tasks correctly and in a
timely manner. Given the opportunity,I will prove to be an asset to the work environment.
My previous experience as a Lieutenant at the Clinton County Correctional Facility has given me the tools
needed to complete assigned tasks in a correctional setting. I have worked successfully with various county officials
on special projects. Also, I have worked with our respected Judges and Children and Youth to enhance their success
in serving our community. Some of these projects include juvenile fingerprinting orders. In the past, I worked in
close connection with Children and Youth to set up video visitation for their families. This has enabled me to form
great communication with various groups of people. My experience as a Lieutenant provided me with the skills
needed to be a fair and effective leader. I have had to correct, reprimand, and praise staff when needed in my
supervisory role. Also, I have completed the documentation required for staff such as evaluations, reprimands, and
attendance. As a supervisor,I was responsible for managing the movement of inmates and the attendance and
performance of staff. I was able to do this successfully for nine years.Working as the Central Booking
Administrator, I was able to raise the ranking of the finger print compliance to second in the state of Pennsylvania.
This was a great triumph for the Clinton County Correctional Facility and my personalgrowth. As a Technical
Agency Coordinator, I ensured the facility was in compliance with the laws governing the National Crime
Information Center as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This included preparing paperwork for bi-annual
audits from the Pennsylvania State Police and provide training and testing for all of the NCIC operators. I am
experienced in preparing documents for courts, processing finger print orders, accompanying inmates during video
court hearings, preparing documents for inmate release, and appearing in court hearings when needed.
As a correctional officer at the Clinton County Correctional Facility, I have held the position of Union
President and have developed a good working knowledge of the expectations of the correctional officers. I utilized
these skills when working in a supervisory position. This past position will aid me in various tasks, such as
collective bargaining with contract negotiations. The safety of our employees and inmate population has always
been of great concern to me while working at my past facility. Given the opportunity,I will apply the skills I have
obtained from my previous employment to successfully complete the assigned duties of the position being filled.
My previous training included training as the TAC officer, Central Booking Administrator, and
certifications in CJM. I am both certified in CPR and First Aid. I also have attended courses in suicide
intervention. Additionally, I have built great communication skills with both the staff and the inmates and have
been able to diffuse situations that could have been detrimental to both the safety of the staff and our inmates. My
training has strengthened my communication skills between staff, inmates, and officials. I have maintained open
communication with the staff both while on duty at the facility and while off duty for questions orproblems that
occurred.
Throughout my career, I have grown personally. Learning how to work and communicate with various
levels of staff, has allowed me to develop a working relationship with affiliated services such as Homeland Security
and the US Marshalls. These relationships enhanced the success ofthe Clinton County Correctional Facility. My
time management skills have been enhanced due to the deadlines set forth for various projects. Given the
opportunity,I will prove to be an excellent addition to a multidisciplinary team. Thank you for yourtime and
consideration. I look forward to meeting with you. I can be reached at 570-916-4873 or rboatman40@gmail.com
