3. 2. Reliability
Reliability indicates a sense of confidence that one’s
needs will be met in positive ways
• You meet the commitments you make
• You keep your promises
4. 3. Understanding
Empathetically aware of other people's feelings
• You have the other person’s interests in mind as
well as your own when you make decisions and
take actions
• The most important for building lasting trust; if they
believe you hold their interests in mind
5. 4. Selflessness
Having little or no concern for oneself, especially
with regard to fame, power, financial reward
Self-righteous, self-centered, selfishly ambitious
goals do not sufficiently motivate
“Man becomes great exactly in the degree in which
he works for the welfare of his fellow-men.”
Ghandi
6. 5. Tenacity
Holding together firmly; cohesive
Anything really worth doing takes persistence,
perseverance, and stubborn determination
Success or victory will seldom come as quickly as you
would have liked it to.
9. Today we are experiencing a series of crises:
Crisis of CONFIDENCE
Crisis of CREDIBILITY
Crisis of TRUST
10. Low trust settings lead to a highly monitored environment
Stakeholders perceive monitoring as infringing on their autonomy and feel
that control is only in place because they are not trusted
Under these conditions accountability becomes the alternative to
trust
The key is balance between accountability and freedom.
Too much of either lowers performance.
Efforts to strengthen performance can lead to micro management and
an even further weakened level of trust
Major factor in triggering disengagement, often to the point of promoting a
dysfunctional and hostile work environment
Micromanagement decreases the intrinsic motivation of stakeholders
and crushes their passions, spirits and joys and leads to feelings of
fear, anger, resentment, resignation and frustration
14. It takes time/commitment to develop
open communication – get all stakeholders
involved in an honest and meaningful way
transparency – people trust what they can
see - they don’t have to guess as to what the
intentions are
cooperation – allows for ownership / buy in
15. We need to view trust as the bridge
that reform may be carried over
Trust can facilitate innovation and change
TRUST
