1. An emergency situation can happen at
any time. Being prepared is more than
just knowing emergency routes or
contacting the relevant services. It
involves caring for the health and
safety, and potentially the lives of
others.
This training material will cover points
relevant to prepare us for the event of
an evacuation and also additional
information on dealing with other types
of emergency.
Introduction
3. Evacuation Attendants
These attendants are tasked with assisting
attendees during the event of an evacuation.
Though evacuation attendants may also act as
general attendants their primary responsibility
remains to ensure the health and safety of
attendees, providing assistance during an
emergency requiring the evacuation of the
auditorium.

6. Preparing For My Assignment
What I Do On Arrival / Commencement Of Duties
On arrival report to the Attendants Base in the
foyer.
Attendants must familiarise themselves with exits
and know the appropriate evacuation route in
order to assist all attendees to reach safety in the
event of an evacuation.
Prior to the session, all exit doors should be
checked to make sure they are not locked or
obstructed in a way that prevents escape.
8. During My Assignment
NON-Medical Emergencies
Examples of threat
- Bomb threat / suspect package [THIS
MUST NOT BE DONE OVER THE
RADIO!!!]
- Fire
- Earthquake
- Gas leak
If a non-medical emergency arises, attendants should IMMEDIATELY contact the
attendants base for direction. Unless the threat is immediate the attendant MUST
NOT take it upon himself to initiate an evacuation. Discernment and good judgement
is required to ensure order is maintained. The safety of all is priority.
9. So as to be prepared for a medical
emergency, all attendants should know the
location of the section first aider and,
where the First Aid Department is located
and how to contact it immediately.
Individuals with cellular phones SHOULD
NOT take it upon themselves to call
emergency services, since the First Aid
Department is trained and prepared to care
for such matters.

10. Attendants should make sure aisles are clear of any items that could cause someone to
trip and fall in the event of evacuation. They should be watchful for any other safety
hazards.
At all times, including intermissions, attendants are to control crowd decorum ensuring
crowds may not impede evacuation during an emergency.
All attendants should be alert to any concerns to security at all times. Attendants should
watch for individuals who may enter the premises with ulterior motives.

11. During My Assignment
Pay Attention To Your Environment Part2
Attendants should be watchful for any
suspect packages. Should you encounter a
suspicious package do not touch it. Notify
the Attendants Base immediately.
In the event of spillages the attendant will
need to be able to specify the exact location
of spillage. It could help if the type of spillage
is known [for example is it body fluids e.g.
vomit or spilled tea and coffee... Different
types of spillage are handled using a
different methodology.
12. An evacuation will be initiated by either:
1. An announcement from the platform
2. Fire Alarm goes off [no such thing as a false alarm]
During this set procedures should be followed.
Attendant A (The Batman) must locate his signal and calmly lead
his section to safety ensuring all act with care and haste.
Attendant B (The Sweeper) follows behind ensuring none are left
behind. Once outside and all attendees under his care are safe
he must radio back to the attendants base, “All Clear!!!” stating
his section.
EVACUATION!!!!
13. Elderly and Infirm
Attendants should be especially attentive to the
needs of the elderly and the infirm, kindly
offering any needed assistance. It would be wise
to assess the needs of those in your assigned
section as early as possible. Should there be an
emergency you will be far better prepared to
respond.
