1. THE SANCTUARY ARTICLES

2. Says the great deceiver: “We must watch those who
are calling the attention of the people to the
Sabbath of Jehovah; they will lead many to see the
claims of the law of God; and the same light which
reveals the true Sabbath, reveals also the
ministration of Christ in the heavenly sanctuary,
and shows that the last work for man’s salvation is
now going forward. Hold the minds of the people
in darkness till that work is ended, and we shall
secure the world and the church also. {4SP 337.2}

3. The subject of the sanctuary was the key which
unlocked the mystery of the disappointment of
1844. It opened to view a complete system of truth,
connected and harmonious, showing that God's
hand had directed the great advent movement and
revealing present duty as it brought to light the
position and work of His people… Light from the
sanctuary illumined the past, the present, and the
future…{GC 423.1}

4. As with holy boldness Paul proclaimed the gospel in the
synagogue at Thessalonica, a flood of light was thrown
upon the true meaning of the rites and ceremonies
connected with the tabernacle service. He carried the
minds of his hearers beyond the earthly service and the
ministry of Christ in the heavenly sanctuary, to the time
when, having completed His mediatorial work, Christ
would come again in power and great glory, and establish
His kingdom on the earth. {AA 228.3}
For three successive Sabbaths Paul preached to the
Thessalonians, reasoning with them from the Scriptures
regarding the life, death, resurrection, office work, and
future glory of Christ, the "Lamb slain from the foundation
of the world." Rev 13:8. He exalted Christ, the proper
understanding of whose ministry is the key that unlocks
the Old Testament Scriptures, giving access to their rich
treasures. {AA 229.1}

5.  For the law was given by Moses, but grace
and truth came by Jesus Christ. (John 1:17)
 Take this book of the law, and put it in the
side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD
your God, that it may be there for a witness
against thee. (Deuteronomy 31:26)
 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the
truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the
Father, but by me. (John 14:6)

6.  Hebrews 8:5 Who serve unto the example and
shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was
admonished of God when he was about to make
the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make
all things according to the pattern shewed to thee
in the mount.
 Hebrews 8:2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of
the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and
not man.
 Revelation 11:19 And the temple of God was
opened in heaven

7.  Psalms 119:27 Make me to understand
the way of thy precepts: so shall I talk of
thy wondrous works.
 Psalms 73:17 Until I went into the
sanctuary of God; then understood I their
end.
 Psalms 77:13 Thy way, O God, is in the
sanctuary: who is so great a God as our
God?

10.  And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may
dwell among them. (Exodus 25:8)
 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt
call his name JESUS: for he shall save his
people from their sins. Now all this was done,
that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of
the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a
virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth
a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel,
which being interpreted is, God with us.
(Matthew 1:21-23)

11. What? know ye not that your body is the
temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you,
which ye have of God, and ye are not your
own? (1 Corinthians 6:19)
From eternal ages it was God's purpose
that every created being, from the bright
and holy seraph to man, should be a temple
for the indwelling of the Creator. Because
of sin, humanity ceased to be a temple for
God. {DA 161.1}

14.  Exodus 27:1-2 And thou shalt make an altar of
shittim wood, five cubits long, and five cubits
broad; the altar shall be foursquare: and the
height thereof shall be three cubits. And thou
shalt make the horns of it upon the four corners
thereof: his horns shall be of the same: and
thou shalt overlay it with brass.

sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God,
which is your reasonable service.

that henceforth we should not serve
sin.

 2 Chronicles 29:7 Also they have shut up the
doors of the porch, and put out the lamps, and
have not burned incense nor offered burnt
offerings in the holy place unto the God of
Israel.

22. Joel 2:17 Let the priests, the ministers
of the LORD, weep between the porch
and the altar, and let them say, Spare
thy people, O LORD, and give not
thine heritage to reproach, that the
heathen should rule over them:
wherefore should they say among the
people, Where is their God?

24.  Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world:
but be ye transformed by the renewing of your
mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and
acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
 Romans 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by
baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised

 Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is
written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by

37.  Matthew 5:14-16 Ye are the light of the world.
A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Neither do men light a candle, and put it under
a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth
light unto all that are in the house. Let your
light so shine before men, that they may see
your good works, and glorify your Father
which is in heaven.
 Revelation 1:20 the seven candlesticks which
thou sawest are the seven churches.

38.  Zechariah 4:2-3 And said unto me, What seest
thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a
candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of
it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to
the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof:
And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side
of the bowl, and the other upon the left side
thereof.
 The Whole chapter is for deep study.
 Revelation 11:4 These are the two olive trees, and
the two candlesticks standing before the God of
the earth.

39. Revelation 1:12-13 And I turned to see the voice
that spake with me. And being turned, I saw
seven golden candlesticks; And in the midst of the
seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man,
clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt
about the paps with a golden girdle.

40.  Exodus 40:26-27 And he
put the golden altar in the

burnt sweet incense
thereon; as the LORD

44. He quickly carried me from the earth to the
Holy City. In the city I saw a temple, which
I entered. I passed through a door before I
came to the first veil. This veil was raised,
and I passed into the holy place. Here I saw
the altar of incense, the candlestick with
seven lamps, and the table on which was
the shewbread. After viewing the glory of
the holy, Jesus raised the second veil and I

cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

partaking of the Holy Spirit
 We should also pray for others, teach the word
and live lives that reflect the light of Christ

46.  Hebrews 9:3-5 And after the second veil, the
tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;
Which had the golden censer, and the ark of
the covenant overlaid round about with gold,
wherein was the golden pot that had manna,
and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of
the covenant; And over it the cherubims of
glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we
cannot now speak particularly.

47. Leviticus 16:12 And he shall
take a censer full of burning
coals of fire from off the altar
before the LORD, and his hands
full of sweet incense beaten
small, and bring it within the
vail: And he shall put the
incense upon the fire before the
LORD, that the cloud of the
incense may cover the mercy
seat that is upon the testimony,
that he die not:

48.  Exodus 26:34 And thou shalt put the mercy seat
upon the ark of the testimony in the most holy
place.
 Exodus 25:19-20 And make one cherub on the
one end, and the other cherub on the other end:
even of the mercy seat shall ye make the
cherubims on the two ends thereof. And the
cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high,
covering the mercy seat with their wings, and
their faces shall look one to another; toward the
mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be.

49.  Psalms 99:1 The LORD reigneth; let the people
tremble: he sitteth between the cherubims

50.  Deuteronomy 10:4 And he wrote on the tables,
according to the first writing, the ten
commandments, which the LORD spake unto you in
the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of
the assembly: and the LORD gave them unto me.
And I turned myself and came down from the
mount, and put the tables in the ark which I had
made; and there they be, as the LORD commanded
me.
 Revelation 11:19 And the temple of God was opened
in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark
of his testament: and there were lightnings, and
voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and
great hail.

51.  Exodus 32:15 And Moses turned, and went down
from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony
were in his hand: the tables were written on both their
sides; on the one side and on the other were they
written.
 Exodus 16:33 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot,
and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up
before the LORD, to be kept for your generations.
 Numbers 17:10 And the LORD said unto Moses, Bring
Aaron's rod again before the testimony, to be kept for
a token against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take
away their murmurings from me, that they die not.

52. In the holiest I saw an ark; on the top and sides of it
was purest gold. On each end of the ark was a lovely
cherub, with its wings spread out over it. Their faces
were turned toward each other, and they looked
downward. Between the angels was a golden censer.
Above the ark, where the angels stood, was an
exceeding bright glory, that appeared like a throne
where God dwelt. Jesus stood by the ark, and as the
saints’ prayers came up to Him, the incense in the
censer would smoke, and He would offer up their
prayers with the smoke of the incense to His Father.
In the ark was the golden pot of manna, Aaron’s rod
that budded, and the tables of stone which folded
together like a book. {EW 32.3}

53.  Exodus 16:15 And when the children of Israel saw
it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they
wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them,
This is the bread which the LORD hath given you
to eat.
 Joh 6:48 I am that bread of life. Your fathers did
eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is
the bread which cometh down from heaven, that
a man may eat thereof, and not die.
 Note Deuteronomy 8:1-3 for the object lesson that
God was trying to teach in the provision of
manna

54.  Psalms 78:24 And had rained down manna
upon them to eat, and had given them of the
corn of heaven.
 Mark 2:23 And it came to pass, that he went
through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and
his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the
ears of corn.
 Corn and other foods from the grass family are
referred to as grains and cereals

55.  Numbers 17:5 And it shall come to pass, that
the man's rod, whom I shall choose, shall
blossom: and I will make to cease from me the
murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby
they murmur against you.
 Hebrews 7:21 (For those priests were made
without an oath; but this with an oath by him
that said unto him, The Lord sware and will
not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the
order of Melchisedec:) By so much was Jesus
made a surety of a better testament.

56.  Numbers 17:8 And it came to pass, that on the
morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of
witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the
house of Levi was budded, and brought forth
buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded
almonds.
 The seed of the almond is one of the most
potent nuts. The fleshy outer coat can be eaten
as fruit. Both can be eaten raw.

57.  Deuteronomy 30:10 If thou shalt hearken unto
the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his
commandments and his statutes which are
written in this book of the law, and if thou turn
unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart,
and with all thy soul.
 Deuteronomy 31:26 Take this book of the law,
and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant
of the LORD your God, that it may be there for
a witness against thee.

58.  Revelation 12:17 [W]hich keep the commandments
of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
 Revelation 19:10 I am thy fellowservant, and of thy
brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship
God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of
prophecy.
 Revelation 22:9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do

59.  Revelation 14:7 Fear God, and give glory to
him
 Ecclesiastes 12:13 Fear God, and keep his
commandments:
 1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat,
or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the
glory of God.
 The message of temperance is thus directly
linked to the commandments

60. Ezekiel 1:26-28 And above the firmament that was
over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the
appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness
of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a
man above upon it. And I saw as the colour of amber,
as the appearance of fire round about within it, from
the appearance of his loins even upward, and from
the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as
it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness
round about. As the appearance of the bow that is in
the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of
the brightness round about. This was the appearance
of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I
saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one
that spake.

61. 2 Chronicles 5:13 It came even to pass, as the
trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one
sound to be heard in praising and thanking the
LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the
trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick,
and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his
mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was
filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD; So
that the priests could not stand to minister by reason
of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the
house of God.

62.  Matthew 17:2 And was transfigured before them:
and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment
was white as the light.
 Acts 6:15 And all that sat in the council, looking
stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the
face of an angel.
 Exodus 34:29 And it came to pass, when Moses
came down from mount Sinai with the two tables
of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down
from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin
of his face shone while he talked with him.

63.  Colossians 1:11 Strengthened with all might,
according to his glorious power, unto all

known what is the riches of the glory of this
mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in

64.  Ephesians 3:19 And to know the love of
Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye
might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Father that in him should all fulness dwell;”
“For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the
Godhead bodily.”
 Romans 13:12 The night is far spent, the day
is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works
of darkness, and let us put on the armour of
light.

65.  Isaiah 60:2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover
the earth, and gross darkness the people: but
the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory
shall be seen upon thee.
 Numbers 14:21 But as truly as I live, all the
earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.
 Revelation 18:1 And after these things I saw
another angel come down from heaven, having
great power; and the earth was lightened with
his glory.

66. I looked upon the company, who, a short time before,
were in such distress and bondage. Their captivity was
turned. A glorious light shone upon them. How
beautiful they then looked! All marks of care and
weariness were gone, and health and beauty were seen
in every countenance. Their enemies, the heathen around
them, fell like dead men; they could not endure the light
that shone upon the delivered, holy ones. This light and
glory remained upon them, until Jesus was seen in the
clouds of heaven, and the faithful, tried company were
changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, from
glory to glory. {EW 272.3}

67. Ever before Him, Christ saw the result of His
mission. His earthly life, so full of toil and self-
sacrifice, was cheered by the thought that He
would not have all this travail for nought. By
giving His life for the life of men, He would
restore in humanity the image of God. He
would lift us up from the dust, reshape the
character after the pattern of His own
character, and make it beautiful with His own
glory. {MH 504.2}
