Four Rosarian Academy Students—Caleb Curtis (fifth grade), Christopher Curtis (eighth grade), Frances Melendez
(seventh grade) and Gabriella Melendez (eighth grade)—recently had the opportunity to hang out and golf with
PGA Tour player Sergio Garcia while filming a Public Service Announcement for The First Tee.
Rosarian Academy Students—Caleb, Christopher, Frances, and Gabriella—are participants of The First Tee of The
Palm Beaches, a major youth development program in Palm Beach County. The founding mission of the foundation
is to help children with disabilities, but The First Tee also offers the opportunity for all students to learn various life
skills and life enhancement opportunities through the game of golf, including Nine Core Values and Nine Healthy
Habits. The Nine Core Values are honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility,
perseverance, courtesy and judgment. The Nine Healthy Habits are energy, play, safety, vision, mind, family,
friends, school and community. The First Tee of The Palm Beaches was established with the support of the Michael
B. Finnegan Foundation, the PGA of America and The Honda Classic.
In the behind the scenes filming of the PSA, Frances and Gabriella both had the opportunity to be interviewed
regarding their experience with The First Tee. Frances says, "I think it's nice that The First Tee would give the
students here a chance to meet the pros, get an experience with golf, and I think The First Tee is an amazing place."
Gabriella adds, "It wouldn't happen anywhere else but here." This segment airs on Inside the PGA Tour.
In the actual commercial that airs on national television, Caleb can be seen in the first four seconds of the
commercial as he is instructed by a pro and Christopher appears about 17 seconds in as Sergio Garcia discusses the
value of children using integrity in their daily lives.
The First Tee of the Palm Beaches Chapter includes all of Palm Beach County which encompasses over 80,000
elementary school students and is one of 15 chapters in the state of Florida and one of over 180+ throughout the
world. In a past independent research study of The First Tee, 73% of young people at participating chapters reported
high confidence in their ability to do well academically and 82% credited the program for their confidence in their
social skills with peers.
Founded in 1925, Rosarian Academy educates students in early childhood through eighth grade and offers an
exceptionally strong academic program enriched by athletics, visual and performing arts, and community service
opportunities. The private, coeducational school is located on Flagler Drive in downtown West Palm Beach and is
sponsored by the Adrian Dominican Sisters. For more information, visitwww.rosarian.org or call 561.832.5131.
