It is an expression which is made up of variables and constants, along
with algebraic operations (addition, subtraction, etc.). Expressions are
made up of terms. They are also termed as algebraic equations.

Values of Algebraic Expression
If the length of its side (in cm) is represented by
an unknown x, then its perimeter (in cm) can be
represented by the algebraic expression 4x. x cm
Given: 8 cm
4x = 4(8)= 32cm
Given: 20 cm
4x = 4(20)= 80cm
SUBSTITUTION
It is the method of replacing unknowns by number and the result
obtained is the value of the algebraic expression.

Formula
The perimeter and the area of some plane figures
can be represent by algebraic expressions.

w = 3 cm l = 5 cm

a. Write the formula for the total cost that Jundel has to
pay.
T = 60x + 20y + 12z
b. Find the total cost if he buys 2 bottles of milk tea, 6 packs of fries, and
4 slices of pizza.
T = 60(2) + 20(6) + 12(4)
= 120 + 120 + 48 = 288
Jundel paid a total
cost of P288.00
