HOBBIES
Music
I have always had a passion for music. As a young boy, I grew up listening to jazz and classic rock. I received
my first guitar during my sophomore year in high school. In my junior year, I started playing in a garage band
for fun. This continued into college, where I started playing open mics with the same group. During this time
period, I learned how to play bass guitar and drums. After college, and during my engineering career, the
same group started playing local shows. Our original drummer resigned, so I filled in the role of a drummer.
This worked out well until the group broke up in 2014. During the same year, I was picked up by another
guitarist and formed a two piece band. We were fortunate to play more venues in Milwaukee, West Bend,
Chicago, Rockford, and Madison. We were also fortunate to create tours, merchandise, light shows, as well as
open for a national touring act. I still do this to this day.
Automotive
One of the things that got me into engineering is the allure of automobiles. I have two classic cars that I have
been taking care of. I much rather learn how to work on cars and solve their problems instead of taking the
cars to a mechanic. In learning about my own cars, I was able to help family members, and associates with
their automotive challenges, including, brake, suspension, transmission and numerous tire and oil changes.
From time to time, I still work on cars today.
Learning
One of the things that I have always loved as an engineer is the encouragement to continue learning. A lot of
the skills that I have developed, such as project and time management, have helped me outside of my
engineering career. For example, I do a lot of networking and maintain a lot of band and venue relationships
with my current band project. The social skills that I developed within my current band project, has also help
me initiate and maintain solid relationships with vendors and co-workers inside my engineering career.
Through the help of friends, I am able to do electrical modifications, such as soldering and modifying guitars
and guitar pedals, as well as manufacture LED hoops commonly used in the electronic dance music scene
and fabricate custom lighting solutions for rock shows. I have obtained many skills, such as soldering,
welding, sheet metal fabrication, carbon fiber fabrication, and machining, due to my interest in these fields
and the desire to expand my knowledge and understanding of these fields.
