Shady Side Academy - Fox Chapel Road, Pittsburgh, PA
Director of Technology
Network Architecture: Planned, designed and implemented the infrastructure fiber networking connecting
twelve builidings on the Senior campus with the Middle School campus located over a mile away. Utilized both
Cisco and Brocade gear in these upgrades and installs. Interconnected the Junior School via Dark Fiber. This also
entailed either upgrading exisitng wiring closets or installing new ones. This ongoing project required managing
multiple vendors and many in-house resources and was completed with minimal impact to entire campus
community. Implementing a new wireless infrastructure allowed the Academy to expand on their laptop usage,
mobile devices and tablet technologies. This enabled the Academy to implement a one-to-one iPad program in
the lower to middle grades, which involved planning and implementing Airwatch as the mobile device manager.
IT Management: Worked closely with decision makers to identify problems, recommend, develop,
implement, and manage cost-effective technology solutions, on time and within budget. Managed the
deployment, monitoring, maintenance, upgrade and support of all IT systems, including servers, PCs,
operating systems, hardware, software, and peripherals. Managed IT staffing, including recruitment,
supervision, scheduling, development, and evaluation. Oversaw end-user services including HELP desk
and technical support services.

Condensed existing systems to 90% virtualization which significnatly reduced asset and resource costs
Converted to cloud-based services to allow users acces from anywhere at any time on any device, while
also allowing them to collaborate, with 100% uptime
Infrastructure changes provided a strong foundation from which to build on, now and into the future
Effective resource management provided users with the most current equipment in order to achieve the
greatest learning experience
Additional Professional Experience
Cloud Services: A major initiative was moving toward cloud-based services. I planned, designed and
implemented the migration of their existing library systems to the cloud. Of particular note was Library
Management and Digital Content Solutions. This helped to significantly reduce costs by as much as 50
percent. The school no longer had to furnish assets to support these systems and were able to provide
their patrons with 24/7 access to the Library resources and e-books.
Virtualization: Moved our on-premise systems netware, including SUSE Linux (SLES) and Microsoft
servers to Vmware hosts. This involved implementing SANS technology and moving all existing data to
the new storage. The Academy's 30+ servers now reside on seven reliable/fault tolerant hosts
connected to NetApp and Compellant ISCSI and Fiber Channel Sans. This provided our day students as
well as dorming students with 24/7 access and far more uptime access. Designed and implemented
Virtualized desktop infrastructure (VDI) with both VMWare View and Citrix Xendesktop. This allowed IT
to rollout updates much more efficiently.
