3. The Fish started their new era in full force, opening a
state-of-the-art ballpark and stealing most of the attention
at the Winter Meetings.
The club spent $191 million to sign three Free Agents –
Mark Buehrle, Heath Bell and José Reyes-, more than in
the 14 previous offseasons… combined.
Team payroll on Opening Day was of $118.078.000, the
biggest in franchise history and 7th in the Majors…
…only to finish in the cellar of the NL East, with a 69-93
record, 29 games behind the first-place Washington
Nationals (?!). The Fish failed to win at least 70 games for
SOME the first time since 1999. In three words: a major
disappointment.
36.601 spectators witnessed the first game at the new
FACTS
ballpark, a 4-1 loss against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Marlins drew a total of 2.219.444 fans to the new
ABOUT stadium, an average of 27.400 per game, marking a
145.9% increase compared to the 2011 season. It was also
the third time in team history that over 2 million people
attended home games –the others being „93 and „97-.
YOUR 2012 Emilio Bonifacio was the first baserunner of the season
(HBP). José Reyes got the first hit –breaking a no-no in
MIAMI
the process- and John Buck drove the first run, scored by
Omar Infante.
Only three players –John Buck, José Reyes and Giancarlo
MARLINS Stanton- that appeared in Opening Day played the final
game of the season, as the Front Office pulled three
trades before August 1, obtaining some valuable pieces in
return. The farm system jumped from 29th place overall to
the Top 10 in less than a week.
Ozzie Guillén‟s squad used a total of 45 players during
the 2012 campaign –21 pitchers and 24 position players-.

baseball games. 2010.
(*) After the 2009 season, the Fish decided to ditch their longball
dependence and focus on pitching and defense, their main
weaknesses at the time. The trade of Dan Uggla –a slugger known
for his atrocious fielding- for Omar Infante and Michael Dunn,
plus the signing of Javier Vázquez in 2011 are symbolic moments
of this new vision.

About Bonuses/Penalties
Depending on their skills, pitchers can
receive bonuses in certain situations. A bonus
gives the pitcher an increase in speed,
sharpness, control and break while
consuming less stamina. A penalty is the
exact opposite.

About Bonuses/Penalties
Just like pitchers, hitters perform differently in
certain situations. But bonuses increase
hitting power, contact and, in some cases,
speed when batting. Penalties work in the
