1. Don’t Pay the Price of (Other
Coating’s) Failure…
Labor cost to remove layers by
sanding/scraping or patch
primer.
Labor cost to repair, prepare
and clean surface.
Labor coast to re-prime and
re-coat surface.
Materials cost to replace
coating that had to be
removed.
Cost of downtime while primer
cures, and while coating
cures.
Extensive coating failure
requires total replacement of
coated item.

Coval Difference 101
Other coatings suffer from fractures of top coat occur when substrate and
coating expand and contract at different rates. As coatings age, they become
harder and less flexible; across the coating spectrum, thin films tend to crack
less than thick films. Fractures expose substrates to weathering, moisture,
organism growth, dirt, etc. Fracture types include peeling, flaking and
delamination. Coval Coatings covalent bond is part of the substrate – it
expands/contracts as one - and can’t fracture..

Mechanism of a Fracture
Profile too small
gives poor key for
adhesion.
Profile too large
means peaks may
protrude through
the paint film as
paint flows away
from peaks.
Steel Profile Weak coverage over high peaks of
blast profile
Low film thickness of paint over steel with large blast profile
Coating
Blast Profile Effect
Because Coval Coatings are nano-sized, they fill in each gap. Superior
adhesion (covalent bond) and micro-thin coating requirements mean Coval
Coatings completely coat over peaks, troughs, pits and gaps.
3. Coval Products Prevent 10 Common Application Issues
Cissing
Caused by contamination of surface, such
that coating cannot wet surface fully.
Welding Issues
Weld flux residues absorbs water and then
dissolves in it, causing corrosion to break
through coating. Coating applied over weld
spatter breaks down early due to coating
shrinkage stress.
Lapping
Brush strokes and spray pass stay visible
after drying.
Pin holing
Circular pits void of coating caused by
bubble breakage at a stage in cure when
coating cannot flow and repair itself.
Wrinkling
Happens when surface of coating dries, but
under portion of coating remains soft for a
longer time.
Corrosion & Rash Rusting
Caused by blast profile effects, poor
surface preparation and/or poor
product choice
Blistering & Bubbling
Liquid/gas pressure on coating
greater than adhesion strength
causes localized detachment. Often
occurs painting over porous
surfaces.
Chalking
UV degradation of coating resin at
surface causes breakdown and
release of pigment particles.
Checking
Caused by contraction of top coat
during curing.
Edge & Corner Failure
Blast profile effects on metal burrs
and tendency for surface tension
created during curing to cause
coating to shrink and pull away from
edges.
4. Micro-thin Coval Coatings dry quickly for smooth, even coverage.
Coval Coatings create a covalent bond to make a new surface (substrate + coating
not coating over substrate) for extremely strong adhesion.
Coval Coatings fill in nano-sized pits and burrs to totally protect surface. Viewed
under a microscope, other coatings show “basketball-sized” pits & erratic coverage.
Coval Coatings anti-fracture structure expand/contract along with the surface
they protect so they never crack, peel or flake.
Coval Prep Products completely clean & prepare surfaces, even over welding.
Coval Coatings are UV resistant to prevent oxidation or breakdown.
