on benchmarking managed care
operations
L
Managed care organizations face significant
technical and operational constraints
accessing and transforming their data into
information that can be used to run their
business. Data is organized around
application efficiency and distributed among
many complex tables.
Information is not easily accessed or
disseminated due to the limited
availability of tools.
Data access typically requires specialized
skill sets and resources.
Reporting requests slow down production
systems.
As a result, executives often lack the
information and decision support capability
to effectively manage and improve managed
care operations. For example, timely
information on simple metrics are not easily
benchmarked and tracked, such as claims
input, error rates, dollars paid, number of
claims pended, dollars pended, average age of
claims pended, days/1000, ER/1000,
A/R aging, and pended authorizations.
Regular access to this information on a
trended basis is required for management to
implement interventions that result in more
efficient operations, such as retraining,
productivity incentives, and process changes.
Based on experience gained from working
with approximately 45 managed care clients
who use the AMISYS ® system, Perot Systems
provides services and solutions to quickly
benchmark and continuously improve
managed care operations.
Dashboard Database - Perot
Systems TMDashboard Database is a detailed
data repository extracted from the AMISYS
system that simplifies access to managed
care metrics. The data is stored externally
from the production system, removing any
resource requirements, except for a nightly
extraction update process. In addition, the
data is organized in a manner that allows
non-technical staff to quickly access the
information they need, using industry
standard reporting tools, such as Crystal
Reports". & Dashboard Database is
suited to address both ad hoc and
production reporting requirements.
Once Dashboard Database is operational, client
personnel are trained in its use and ready to
begin benchmarking and examining operational
trends.
Dashboard Executive Information
Systems (EIS) - Perot Systems" Dashboard
EIS solution is a customized set of standard
benchmarks that serves as a "dashboard"for
managed care executives by putting key
operational data in their hands in a timely and
e icient manner. Using a summary database
extracted from AMISYS, Perot Systems works
with its clients to determine specific data and
reporting requirements.
