● Vigil Maldonado Detention Center 444 East Hereford Ave. Raton,
NM 87740 (575)445-3691
Corrections Officer October 2010 – September 2016
I had many job duties including booking inmates, which included finger
printing them and taking their mug shots. It was required to walk
through the pods on a regular basis to ensure that the inmates did not
have any contraband and that there weren't any other issues. We often
broke up fights during this time. It was my job to pass out food trays. I
also did inmate transport; this included taking them to and from their
court appearances and medical appointments. I also worked the jail
switchboard, during this time I would answer the incoming calls, I
would watch all the monitors inside and outside the jail, I monitored
incoming and outgoing traffic from the jail, I directed other officers as
to when an issue arose in a pod and they were needed for inmate
control. I often wrote out incident reports. Our shifts rotated,
sometimes I worked days, sometimes I worked swing, and sometimes

eight hour and twelve hour shifts.
● Springer Correctional Facility NM State Rd 468 Springer, NM 87747
(575)483-3100
Corrections Officer September 2008 – September 2010
While employed at the prison I worked in two different units where the
prisoners were housed. I walked around and supervised the inmates
during their daily routines to ensure the pods were safe for the
employees and other inmates. This meant ensuring that everyone in
the pod was where they were supposed to be and doing head counts
to make sure there were no extra inmates or missing inmates. I did
belonging checks on and off of their person to ensure they weren't
harboring any contraband. When working graveyards we did census
checks also. I wrote incident reports. I did perimeter checks routinely
during the graveyard shift. Some nights I was assigned to vehicle
patrol where we detected suspicious activities and watched for
escapees.

Dear Sir or Madam,
As a dedicated professional with over eight years of experience in
Corrections, I feel confident that I am an excellent candidate for the
security position. I pride myself on having strong communication
skills, an exceptional ability to follow standards for safety and
documentation, and a friendly and customer-focused demeanor. Most
importantly, I will be ready to step in and perform any task necessary
to promote a safe environment.
My previous experience as a Corrections Officer at the Vigil
Maldonado Detention Center has prepared me well for this position. I
learned standard safety procedures, was extremely conscientious in
enforcing security regulations, and was constantly on alert for unusual
activity. I also developed the ability to effectively communicate with a
variety of people from all walks of life, and to defuse uncomfortable or
dangerous situations.
If I were to become your new security guard, I would bring my
experience and training, a positive attitude that will put others at
ease, and the drive to do whatever it takes to provide a safe
environment for everyone.
I've attached a resume detailing my work experience in more detail. I
look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your time and
consideration.
Sincerely,
Rick Roberts
