I have had the good fortune of knowing Rick D. Carpenter for the past several years including a very
recent opportunity to have worked with Rick at Farm Share, a local non-profit organization dedicated
to supplying food to the needy through a network of agencies.
During this time, I was very impressed with many aspects of Rick’s work and character. As the
manager of the USDA / TEFAP program, Rick consistently demonstrated a strong aptitude to both
understand and comply with the considerable governmental regulations and requirements of the
TEFAP program while effectively coordinating this program with a broad range of agencies and
colleagues within the Farm Share organization. Often times the agencies needed considerable training
and guidance in order to comply with their responsibilities as TEFAP distributors and Rick proved
himself frequently to be a patient but firm instructor and resource to these agents.
Rick also demonstrated his strong commitment to the mission of Farm Share and the people being
served by finding new ways to deal with unique and challenging agency issues. Often times, this
required travel, long hours and supervision of large scale distributions on weekends. Whether the
circumstances called for a 12 hour work day, jumping on a fork lift or lending a hand to help loading
or unloading product, Rick could be counted on to do whatever was necessary to accomplish the
mission and satisfy the needs of his agencies and co-workers.
