Focuss.Info Initiative: Community Contributed Content with Web 2.0 Social Bookmarking Tools Web 2.0 presages a  freeing of data , allowing it to be exposed, discovered and manipulated in a variety of ways distinct from the purpose of the application originally used to gain access. Web 2.0  permits the building of virtual applications , drawing data and functionality from a number of different sources as appropriate.  Web 2.0 is  participative . The traditional Web has tended to be somewhat one-sided, with a flow of content from provider to viewer. Web 2.0 applications  work for the user , and are able to locate and assemble content that meets  our  needs as users, rather than forcing us to conform to the paths laid out for us by content owners or their intermediaries.  Web 2.0 applications are  modular , with developers and users able to pick and choose from a set of interoperating components in order to build something that meets their needs.   Web 2.0 is about  sharing : code, content, ideas. Web 2.0 is about  communication  and  facilitating community . Web 2.0 is about  remix . Web 2.0 is  smart . Applications will be able to use knowledge of us, where we have been and what we are doing to deliver services that meet our needs. Web 2.0 opens up  the Long Tail,  making it increasingly cost-effective to service the interests of large numbers of relatively small groups of individuals, and to enable them to benefit from key pieces of the platform while fulfilling their own needs. Web 2.0 is built upon  Trust , whether that be trust placed in individuals, in assertions, or in the uses and reuses of data. Web 2.0 permits the building of virtual applications , drawing data and functionality from a number of different sources as appropriate. Web 2.0 is participative . The traditional Web has tended to be somewhat one-sided, with a flow of content from provider to viewer. Web 2.0 applications work for the user , and are able to locate and assemble content that meets our needs as users, rather than forcing us to conform to the paths laid out for us by content owners or their intermediaries. Web 2.0 applications are modular , with developers and users able to pick and choose from a set of interoperating components in order to build something that meets their needs. Web 2.0 is about sharing : code, content, ideas. Web 2.0 is about communication and facilitating community . Web 2.0 is about remix . Web 2.0 is smart . Applications will be able to use knowledge of us, where we have been and what we are doing to deliver services that meet our needs. Web 2.0 opens up the Long Tail, making it increasingly cost-effective to service the interests of large numbers of relatively small groups of individuals, and to enable them to benefit from key pieces of the platform while fulfilling their own needs. Web 2.0 is built upon Trust , whether that be trust placed in individuals, in assertions, or in the uses and reuses of data.   1. Het is alweer drie jaar geleden dat ik als student aan de IDM opleiding van de Haagse Hogeschool afstudeerde. Tijdens de opleiding bezocht ik conferenties, zoals deze, om de sfeer te proeven van het vak. Dit is mij toentertijd helemaal niet tegengevallen en ik kreeg het idee om internationaal mij binnen het vakgebied te specialiseren. Dit idee is werkelijkheid geworden want sinds verleden jaar ben ik verhuisd naar Londen om een master in informatie en kennismanagement te volgen. Maar het idee dat ik drie jaar na mijn afstuderen op de planken zou staan van de Online Conferentie, in dezelfde track als Tim Spalding, had ik nooit gehad simpelweg omdat ik dacht dat ik zulke kansen nooit zo snel zou krijgen. Dit heeft geresulteerd dat ik wekenlange angstaanvallen en een knoop in de buik in mijn buik had. OK, die problemen klinken wellicht erger dan dat het was omdat ik in de weken voorafgaand aan de presentatie de kilo’s van het dagelijks Britse ontbijt bestaande uit ei, worst, bacon, en witte bonen in tomatensaus ben kwijtgeraakt.
