Role Defined:
• Consult clients/ family members of different options available for their love ones. First determine
source of payment for care, examples private funds, insurance, Medicaid and Medicare. Then
evaluated family member whom is to receive the care, then research assisted living and skilled nursing
facilities. Once facility is possibility tour the facility with family members, observing and questioning
the quality of care to make clients medical needs will be taken care during his or her time in the
facility.
Selected Achievements:
• Long Term Care Consultant: Assisted with the care plan of resident in Assisted Living. The resident’s
health was declining. Researched skilled nursing facilities and found one that would meet resident’s
needs. Once in skilled nursing facility, resident health continued to decline. Helped resident’s family
members find hospice best suited for resident and family members. Result: During time spent with
family and resident the best of care was provided. Family members expressed appreciation and high
satisfaction of all efforts at a difficult time.
• Long Term Memory Care Consultant: Served as a consultant for a daughter with father in memory
care unit. Helped find skilled nursing facility. When funds were of impact, researched and found
another facility which was Medicare and Medicaid supported with the best resident care in mind.
Once the resident’s health began declining secured hospice that was best suited for the resident and
daughter. Result: The resident and the daughter could not have made the care plan decisions
without help and expertise. The family expressed that they thought of me as their own son. The
daughter appreciated above and beyond approach to make sure everything was taken care of
during her hard times.
Assistant Administrator/Administrator in Training
Ebony Lake Healthcare Center, Brownsville, Texas 2009 to 2010
Role Defined:
• Supervised over 120 employees at 120 Bed Skilled Nursing Facility.
• Responsibilities included daily walk through of entire facility, conducting daily department head
meetings, conducting mock surveys with director of nurse consultant from Management Company,
performed audits with MDS coordinator and MDS consultant, monthly review of profit and loss
statement with Administrator, lead and participated in Q and A meeting with Medical Director and
department heads, and overseeing the daily operations of the facility.
Selected Achievements:
• Budget Planning & Cost Control: Asked to develop and research a program to evaluate
housekeeping / laundry budget and determine why department was over budget. First needed to
understand housekeeping / laundry budget for the facility. There were three parts to the budget
which are laundry (chemicals), housekeeping (supplies) and linens. Determined supplies were over
budget. Implemented a system when any employee would request trash he or she would have to sign
for them. Result: The expense of trash bags went down considerably and the department was back
on budget.
• Marketing: Selected target markets after determining strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats
which is a SWOT analysis. Developed marketing plan to target local hospitals, rehabilitation centers
and adult day cares. Gained contacts which were case managers at the hospitals and rehabilitation
centers and the owners of the adult day care centers. Facilitated a luncheon in the rehabilitation
center in the facility striving for a common goal to work towards getting residents independent and
able to return home Result: Marketing plan increased occupancy from 80% to 95%. The luncheon at
facility was a direct result of two referrals.
• Medical Records Review: Served as assistant to the medical records department head. While in this
department reviewed all residents’ records and found specific areas for each department which were
incomplete with residents care plans. Result: During the state and federal survey all residents’ charts
and medical records were in order with no deficiency.
Prep Classes NAB Test Review

Class Defined:
• Joseph E. Townsend NAB prep class facilitator Mona Dortch. This was prepared by Joseph E. Townsend
who is one of the authors of The Principles of Health Care Administration.
Selected Achievement:
• Passed the NAB: The facilitator, Mona Dortch preparation class was intense but clearly explained what
to expect on the NAB test. Result: Passed NAB on August of 2011
Prep for State and National Exams

• Reviewed in preparation for the State and National (NAB) Licensure examinations.
• Stored items necessary for daily living including clothes, toiletries, school supplies, etc. for all ages.

Transitioned from administrator in training to an administrator.
