Undeniably 2020 has been an unpredictable year. This originated some creativity for innovation as much as adaptation and acceleration of existent ideas.
Every so often at Cocoon we feel the need to review these technologies and approaches and filter what we feel is relevant for us and our clients into a document that we share internally and externally.
This year we gave this document a linear context: Digital Global Humanism.
Up until recently people were the central focus in digital businesses and ecosystems.
Businesses started by embracing humanism to achieve their results and to enable clients to access their products in the easiest ways possible.
But now we also need to remind people about their own responsibility for the Earth. We added this to our process of business transformation.
3. Undeniably 2020 has been an unpredictable year.
This originated some creativity for innovation as
much as adaptation and acceleration of
existent ideas.
Although working from home was already a thing
moving forward, the pace was fitting
occasional needs.
The new reality imposed a new pace for AR and VR
to become a real need in healthcare, education, art
and collaboration in general.
Things will further develop in magnitude leading to
the creation of full-blown “virtual working places”
and ecosystems.

8. Machine learning is the ability that systems and
machines have to automatically learn and improve
from experience without the need to be programmed.
It works through the access of a machine to a large
number of data.
The primary aim is to allow the computers to learn
automatically, and it begins with observation
of this data.
Machine learning has revolutionized countless
industries; it’s the underlying technology for many
apps in your smartphone, from virtual assistants like
Siri to predicting traffic patterns with Google Maps.

10. This is another technology that began to make even
more sense with the start of the pandemic. We are
talking about the various methods of interacting with
devices without actually touching them such as :
- Face Detection
- VUI (voice user interfaces)
- Motion detection
- Body gesture
- Intention detection
- Line of sight, emotion, age, and gender recognition
Touch-based interaction are designed for people
who are physically capable. However there is a
large number of people with disabilities.
For healthcare this possibility is an opportunity to
improve the service to patients that may not have
the mobility to interact with their digital products.

14. Not long ago designers borrowed structures of the
real-world to represent tools or functions; e.g.
recycle bin icon used for discarding files. This is
called Skeuomorphism.
After this we felt the need to tone down the
metaphors with minimal and elegant detail into
what is called Flat design. The simplicity of the
elements gave us the opportunity to play often with
more vibrant colours.
While there is a need to still do things this way, as
we move forward and new digital born tools grow,
designers have now a new challenge. Fuse both;
Skeuomorphism + Flat = Neumorphism.

websites and mobile applications.

24. This is more of a responsibility rather than a trend.
It’s the realisation that we live next to each-other
and within the same world, and there is only one
(that we know of).
Change-making starts within ourselves towards the
rest of us, but decision makers have an extra
responsibility to bring this change into their
business, products and actions.
Empathising with costumers pains is not enough.
We need to remind people about their own
responsibility for the Earth, educate them on green
consumerism, and popularize sustainable thinking
and advocate social inclusion.

with the same thinking we used
when we created them.”
