1. Weekly Reflection 3 - FMP
This week I continued with my research, moving on to the market research an other existing products. I
found a great short film about depression that discusses overcoming mental illness and anxiety by talking
about it to others. The general concept for this film is very similar to the concept for my web series and was a
great inspiration for my work. I also learned about the concept of ânormalisationâ from my psychological
consultant. Wherein a difficult or unusual subject is made easier to handle by communicating it to others and
therefore normalising the experience. This made for some compelling production research and gave me a
much stronger idea of how to conclude the series and how to justify the narrative. Things on the casting front
are also going well. After I posted several casting calls on various social media, it was noticed by the company
Backstage. Who got in touch with me and offered me a free code to cast the series on their website. This has
given me access to a huge pool of potential performers that I wouldnât have had otherwise, this this is a very
lucky development. Also on the casting front, due to a lack of auditionees for the character of Joshua Jordan
(A sociopath) in the FMP, I have resigned to step in and perform as Joshua myself. From a directing
standpoint, this actually made my work easier, as it means I can be much closer to my actors to give them
direction. I was also lucky enough to cast the female lead for the series. Oliva Maiden; a professional actress
from London, was very impressed with the casting call and early scripts for Skye (The leading lady of the
series and a manic depressive) She sent me a very impressive audition tape and I cast her not long
afterwards. She has made it clear that she is available to film in York and has outlined that she will be able to
stay in the city for as long as she is needed. Should this deal fall through, there are several other potential
actresses for the role of Skye that can take the role in a pinch. (Though I doubt this will be the case, as Olivia
is very enthusiastic about the part.) The next step will be to finish casting the actors and having rehearsals
and chemistry reads as soon as possible. A project this size will benefit greatly from having as much work as
possible finished in the early stages. Overall though, this was a very productive week, with some great
unforeseen developments that will really help to enrich this project.
