Research Capsule’s new report looks at the market for fingerprint sensors in
smartphones and tablets. The sensor has had slow uptake since the introduction of the
first mainstream phone with a sensor was introduced in 2011. But 2014 was a watershed
year thanks to Apple’s launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus together with the
company’s Apple Pay mobile payment service.
Research Capsule forecasts that fingerprint sensor component revenues
will grow to more than $3 billion in 2019 from $3 million in 2012.
