Renah's new lesson plan
1. 1 | P a g e
A Lesson
Natural Sciences & Technology
Duration: 1 1/2 hrs.
Discovery phase
Audience: Grade: 4
Theme: The Seasons
Topic: Weather& Weather Changes
Integration: Geography
Curriculum requirements:
The study of weather is designed to help students to understand that some events in nature
have a repeating pattern.
Learners need to have knowledge about the seasons and the weather changes, the proper
clothing for all the seasons.
Objectives:
To help students understand how weather can change from season to season.
Learners will collect different pictures for different seasons.- Learners will be able to select
suitable clothing for different seasons and weathers.
LearningOutcomes:
Students will demonstrate knowledge of the appropriate attire and activities for each season
by helping to create a presentation of what they learn about each and what they would wear
during each season. Students will create a newsletter (or flyer) on their favourite things to do
in each season, and what they would wear. Students will participate in making a class book
on each season. Learners will be able to use Twitter to collaborate with other learners.
Design original works using digital tools.
Resources:
Computer with Internet access,
Word processing software
Twitter Account
Phase 2 & Phase 3
I will welcome learners and briefly discuss the four seasons with the students in order to
refresh their minds. Learners are going to activate their Twitter accounts in order to use
them at the end of the lesson.
Students will discuss things the students enjoy doing during winter such as: playing in the
snow, drinking hot chocolate, discusses the things that students need to wear in the winter.
Talk about the need for hats, scarves, boots, sweaters, mittens, and gloves. Students will look

for some of these items on in the internet. After the discussion, each student will save a
picture of their favourite part of winter in a word document. And type one sentence
describing their picture. The pictures will be saved to put in class book at the end of the unit.
I will tweet the information at the end of lesson.
I will discuss how winter turns into spring, and then the way that the trees and plants begin to
bloom. Look at pictures of trees and plants in the spring. Discuss how they no longer need to
wear their winter clothes. We will discuss how we can now wear our short sleeves during the
day, but we sometimes still need a long sleeve or light jacket at night. Type these ideas on
word as they are discussed.
I will discuss the way that trees change as we go from spring to summer. Learners will
discuss activities they do during the summer such as swimming,

each students share the best thing they did this past summer. Discuss the things they will
wear during the summer, including swim suits, shorts, sandals, and sunglasses. Look at
pictures of people doing summer activities. Students will then save a picture of their favourite
summer activity on word document and type one sentence to describe their pictureand save
these for class album
I am going to discuss how trees change as summer leads into fall, discuss how the leaves
change colour and begin to fall off the tree, the activities that we do in the fall such as raking
leaves, picking pumpkins, picking apples, going on hayrides or playing football. I will group
the students to put on a fashion show to demonstrate the types of clothing they wear during
the four seasons.
I will demonstrate how to create a newsletter (or flyer) using word processing software. Each
child will make his/ her own newsletter/flyer to show favourite seasonal activity and what
they would wear. Work with small groups to help complete the newsletters. On the
newsletter/flyer they will include each season and an activity they do in that season. They
will also include something that they wear during each season. They will create the
newsletter using simple sentences, and save it to forums. If volunteer parents or older
students are available to help with this activity, students may insert clip art or pictures from
the Internet instead of drawing pictures and dictate the sentences to be typed.
Teacher will also demonstrate how to make a slideshow of what they know about each of the
four seasons using PowerPoint (show the attached slideshow as an example).
Activities for the learners:
I will Work with a small group each day to create the slideshows.
3. 3 | P a g e
1. Open the link provided below in order for you to have an idea of which kind of clothe
are we supposed to wear in a specific season.

2. Each child will do one of the four slides for each slideshow. Include a slide on each
season with pictures of things that would be a part of that season. Pictures should
include appropriate clothing, activities and possibly holidays
3. Open the link provided below in order to download the slide shows about the four
seasons.

4. Or you can use the following template to create you slide show.
5. Learners are going to use Twitter to comment about their presentation, share ideas
about the lesson and their presentation.
6. Learners are going to invite students from other Provinces who are doing the same
grade in order to exchange information about their lessons and to tell each other how
is the weather at their place and what kind of clothes they are wearing for the day and
why.
The attached RUBRIC may be used to evaluate the slideshows and newsletters.
Phase 4
The teacher posts a tweet asking students what is the difference between weather and a
season? Students will need to respond to the teacher using their Twitter accounts. The teacher
will keep on tweeting so that learners also tweet back to the teacher. The teacher will tweet to
give learners a task to summarise the lesson of the day by tweeting.
