verb?
The following sentences are examples of simple past tense.
1.The children watched a horror film last night.
( This sentence happened in the past.That’s why we need to
add a suffix ed to the verb )
2.It rained almost every week last month.
( This sentence happened in the past because of the
adverbial phrase--’last month’. Simply add ed to form the
simple past tense )

13. REMEMBER:
• The past tense of the verb indicates that an action is in
the past relative to the speaker or writer.
• It is used to talk about a completed action at the
specific time in the past. Past tense states completely
done activities that are frequently signaled by time
expressions such as the following: yesterday, last week, last
month, last night, few days ago, few hours ago, long time
ago, a while ago, few weeks ago, last summer, last year,
decades ago, in ancient times, and once upon a time. All
forms of the past tense of the verb can be used with nouns
or pronouns whether they are singular or plural.
14. • To change the verb in the past tense, you have to
determine first whether the verb is regular or irregular verb.
• Regular verbs are changed into past tense by adding –d
or –ed to the base form.
Examples:

move - moved listen - listened pick- picked

cross – crossed check – checked cry – cried
