Personal Profile
I am a highly motivated self-starter with an ambition to work in conservation. This is evident through my university
degree where I managed and multi-prioritized three jobs and university assignments to tight deadlines and also through
regular volunteering work and training events. I have gained an understanding of ecological standards and working
practices through consultancy work and an intensive traineeship called the LEMUR project where I trained in field
identification and survey skills and worked within the planning ecology team at the council. I have a lively sense of
humour and a positive attitude. I have developed good interpersonal skills through working in conservation. I am quietly
competitive and hardworking, always striving to do well and impress in all tasks. I have a full UK driving licence and own
a car.

a farm worker and worked in a variety of catering roles ranging from cafés and restaurants to 5* hospitality at corporate,
sporting and private events such as weddings. In Thailand I volunteered in an orphanage and spent a month helping to
improve the living conditions for the children. In Namibia I volunteered with an organization that looked after orphaned
and abandoned animals, dealing with the feeding, exercising and cleaning out of Africa’s wild animals, such as Cheetah,
Lions, Baboons, Warthogs and Wild dog. I also did horticultural work and helped teach English in the local village
school. Following this I went to France for a ski season as a chalet host, this role was physically and mentally
challenging, I learnt new culinary skills to cook for 8 people six nights a week cleaning the chalet, giving welcome
speeches and skiing in my spare time.
Royal British Army - Radio Signals Operator Oct 2001 – Oct 2005
Basic soldier trained - Awarded Best Recruit.
Radio systems operator which included; field exercises, courses, fitness training, carrying out tests on our

Courses; Rigger Marshal, Land Rover cross-country with trailer, First Aid, Adventure Training i.e. Basic ski
proficiency (Nordic and Alpine). Athletic training courses, coaching and competitions.
Key Ecological Skills
GIS Skills
I developed GIS skills from University and volunteering. This was further developed through my traineeship at
the Council where I used Map Info daily to carry out work for the Planning Ecology Team, the Biological
Records Centre and the Habitat Biodiversity Audit Team. My work here consisted of data searches and
planning tasks. Furthermore, I also digitized a Potential Local Wildlife Site and Phase One Tetrads.
Biological Recording & Surveying
LEMUR hub core training in field identification. I learnt to use wild flower keys and identify over 100 species by
their characteristics.
LEMUR hub core training in field survey skills of grassland and woodlands using the phase one and two
techniques, including identification of various indicator species for a habitat type.
I have completed three phase one surveys of 1km² tetrads and digitized the results.
Produced written citations for potential local wildlife sites, digitizing into QGIS; cross referencing to historical
data and LBAP and the green book criteria. I also observed the LWS panel meeting, where citations were
reviewed and discussed.
Courses I have undertaken are pond creation and conservation and grassland conservation and management.
3. To improve field identification skills I went on FSC courses in Asteraceae and Fern identification and Plant
identification using the vegetative key. Furthermore, I have attended woodland, grassland and Odonata
workshops and regularly attend Warwickshire floral group meetings and survey force.
I have carried out woodland condition surveys and hedgerow surveys for the Princethorpe project and attended
a woodland tree mensuration day training at Warwickshire Wildlife Trust.
I conducted several Orchard surveys in the South of the county assessing Noble Chafer potential.
I identified grassland NVC types during my university dissertation and have an understanding of the NVC.
I have experience in entomological surveying using sweep nets during my dissertation and have used bashing,
malaise trapping, pan trapping and nest searching methods when shadowing entomologists.
I have practiced bird identification during a fieldwork project at university and through BTO; winter thrush and
BBS.
Protected Species and Habitat Experience
Whilst studying at university I volunteered with Middlemarch Environmental (2011) carrying out bat activity
and roost surveys at dusk and dawn and had 2 further seasons of work. For Wardell-Armstrong I have carried
out numerous bat activity and bat roost surveys (2015).
Great Crested Newt surveying in 2012 and in 2015, including; bottle trapping, torch and egg searches and
producing their written reports.
Site visits for; hedgerow removal, building assessment for bat potential and habitat surveying to assess
likelihood of protected or notable species (2011, 2014 and 2015).
Desk studies where I assessed solar panel feasibility of 15 sites in terms of their ecological value for wildlife.
Assessing the condition of grassland, connective features and roosting opportunities for Barbestelles in the
Whichford area.
Ecological monitoring of protected species included checking refuges for Warwickshire Amphibian and Reptile
Team, bat box checks with the Barbestelle project and badger sett activity with Middlemarch and wardell-
armstrong.
I have carried out Otter spot check surveys and Water Vole trap checks, voluntary.
Report Writing
I have written ecological responses that gave advice, recommendations and results. Including woodland
management recommendations for Barbestelle bats at Whichford wood and for Finham park school ponds in
regards to Great Crested Newts and gave ecological recommendations regarding protected species to the
forestry commission’s management plan for Oversley Wood. Furthermore, I drafted ecological responses to
second level planning applications.
I wrote a comprehensive management plan for Treddington Road verge, for the highways agency to improve
the management for a range of rare and notable plants.
A work experience placement for Middlemarch Environmental in 2012 involved the report writing of fieldwork I
had carried out including; CfSH, Initial Bat, extended phase-one and Great Crested Newt (HSI). I have recently
been writing preliminary ecological appraisals, great crested newt and hedgerow reports for Wardell Armstrong,
whereby I adhere to relevant legislation, terminologies and guidelines.
Research, Data Analysis and Project Work
For my dissertation I used ordination analyses to investigate the effects of weather, sward height, NVC
classification, meadow age and management, on insect assemblages.
I used research analysis skills for an assignment on climate change effects on terrestrial mammals and for
Barbestelle habitat recommendations.
Other projects I have carried out are urban bird ecology and crayfish mark and recapture.
Hobbies and Interests
During my time in the Army I became an Army Athlete and went on to represent the Army in middle distance running.
Competing in the ‘Uniformed World Championships’ in New Zealand and raced for Great Britain in Monaco. I enjoy
going for walks and meeting up with friends. I do yoga and run and I play the piano. I go to various wildlife conservation
talks, walks and work parties.
