2. Introduction
• Pharmacists of course play an important role in the healthcare
system as a trusted resource for patients and healthcare
professionals.
• In turn there is much that pharmacists can do to help during
this time with a new public health threat at the forefront of
many people’s minds.
3. Five ways pharmacists can support during the
coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2)
• Currently, the COVID-19 pandemic is a major public health problem
worldwide.
• Experiences with community pharmacists should be encouraged since
most of the time the community pharmacy is a first point-of-care of the
patients.
• Pharmacists professionals are committed to ensuring that the population
have access to health services and to minimize the adverse impact of the
pandemic.
4. • Therefore, they must be involved with all aspects of medicines use and be
accessible as a point of contact for patients and health care providers.
• As a consequence, it is more than expected that they would be on the
frontline against COVID-19 pandemic and reporting on their successful
experience.
• Henceforth, we the pharmacists should implement innovative strategies in
Covid -19 pandemic.
5. • Pharmacist role can be categorized as “disease prevention &infection
control”, “adequate storage & drug supply” & “patient care and
support for healthcare professionals”.
• International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) has stated that it would
like pharmacists to have in both primary care context (i.e. community
pharmacies and primary healthcare facilities) and in hospital settings.
7. What is Innovation?
• New, useful, idea, improvement, creating, final value, new/better ways,
novel, change, introduce, commercialization, R&D, conversion, diffusion,
application, beneficial …
• “innovation is every intentional novelty bringing sustainable advantage to
an organization.”
• In healthcare IT it can be, e.g: Integrating drugs prescription in hospital with
Internet portals for drugs interactions.
8. • An innovation is… any change in the marketing mix that customers
perceive as new Can be a change in products, services, or processes
• Innovation in Pharmacy practice not very innovative – so far Most
changes are incremental Many changes simply imitate competitors
Thus, pharmacies appear very similar to customers.
9. • Pharmacy Innovation Types
• Greater Operational Efficiency – more for less
• Enhanced Operational Effectiveness – better, faster
• Locking in Customers – it will cost you to leave
• Improved Governance – better run
• More Convenience/ Access – one-stop- shopping
• RED OCEAN Versus BLUE OCEAN Strategies
10.
11. Looking for Blue Oceans
1. Differentiate self from direct competitors
2. Get ideas for indirect competitors
3. Provide simpler alternatives
4. Look at participants other than the end user
5. Provide complimentary products & services
6. Go beyond functional appeal
12. 1. Be a role model and educate others about infection
prevention basics
• Visually show people what they should be doing.
• Examples like performing good hand hygiene, social distancing, &
other infection control measures.
• Demonstrating these practices can be a powerful way to leave an
impression on someone, since pharmacists are generally in a position
of authority within society.
• Example: Ebola Handshake, “foot tap” or “footshake” instead, where
you tap your shoe with the person you are greeting.
13. • Offer strategies for symptom management for patients with minor viral illnesses
• Provide sound guidance to patients and customers
• Direct people to reliable resources
• Keep up to date on the situation as it evolves
• The SARS-CoV-2 outbreak is a unique event that will require us to remain alert,
prepare as best we can, and communicate with others so we can all stay safe.
• Everyone has a part to play and pharmacists have the opportunity to positively
impact how this whole situation plays out.

information & communication technology (ICT) facilities.
• It has been adopted to provide pharmaceutical services to
underserved areas & to address the problem of pharmacist
