The Transport System
     In Humans

      Heart
HEART
 Main function is to pump blood
    throughout the whole body
 The right side of the contains
deoxygenated blood while the left side
    contains oxygenated blood.

Three types of valves
 Tricuspid valve found between the right
    atrium and ventricle.
 Bicuspid valve found between the left
    atrium and ventricle.
 Semi- lunar valve found between the right
ventricle and the pulmonary arch as well as
between the left ventricle and the aortic
    arch.
Aortic arch

                          Pulmonary artery

 Vena cava
                            Left atrium

 Right atrium

                                Left ventricle

Right ventricle

                           Median septum
Blood Circulation
 Deoxygenated blood from different parts
of the body is returned to the relaxed
    right atrium.
 from the upper parts of the body via the
        superior vena cava.
 From the other parts of the body via the
        inferior vena cava.
 When the right atrium contracts
     tricuspid valve opens
 deoxygenated blood enters the relaxed right
          ventricle
 When the right ventricle contracts
 Tricuspid valve closes to prevent the backflow of
          blood into the atrium.
     Semi-lunar valve opens
 Blood enters the pulmonary arch which later divides
into two pulmonary arteries carrying the
          deoxygenated blood to the lungs
BLOOD FLOW
 The pulmonary vein carries the oxygenated
blood from the lungs to the relaxed left atrium
 When the left atrium contracts
     bicuspid valve opens
 blood enters the relaxed ventricle. The left ventricle
        now contracts
 bicuspid valve closes to prevent the backflow of blood
          semi-lunar valve opens
 blood enters the aortic arch and is transported to all parts of
             the body (except the lungs)
BLOOD VESSELS:

 There are three types of blood vessels
    namely:
     artery
     vein
     capillary
 Arteries :
 carry oxygenated blood away from the heart
    except pulmonary artery.
 Veins :
 carry deoxygenated blood towards the heart
    except pulmonary veins
 Capillary:
 connects artery and vein
 allows materials in blood to be exchanged with
    the surrounding tissue
Blood circulation
                Work sheet 2
 Fill in the blanks with the suaitable answer.
 1…………………. blood from different parts of the body
is returned to the relaxed right atrium.

 2. The pulmonary vein carries the ………….. blood from
the lungs to the relaxed left atrium.

 3. Three types of blood vessels are ………………,
    …………….. and …………………
 4. ………………….. carry oxygenated blood away from
    the heart.
5. ……………………….. carry deoxygenated blood towards
the heart.
