THE MICROPROCESSOR
CONSISTS OF THREE SECTION
1.ARITHMETIC
LOGIC UNIT
2.REGISTERS
3.CONTROL UNIT
5. MOTHER BOARD
Main circuit board inside your computer is called mother board
.
The mother board contains the connectors for attaching
additional boards , such as the
CPU,BIOS,memory,mass,storageinterfaces,serial and parallel
ports ,expansion slot and all the controllers that are required to
control standard peripheral devices such as the display screen ,
keyboard ,and hard drive.
6. MEMORY SLOT
MEMORY SLOT =
There are 4 short slots
for SIMMmemory
.this boardhas two
long slots for a new
kindof memory called
DIMMDRAM
7. MOTHERBOARD
Keyboard plug: This is where the keyboard attaches , thruthe back of the
computer
Power connections this is where the power supplyconnects to the mother
board
Processor socket what is visible here is the place where the processor plugs
into the mother boards .Whenthe processor is installed you still cant see it
becauseon top of it is a heat skin and fan to keep the processor cool . Hot
processors make mistakes of evenmelt important parts on the chip.
Different processors are differentsizes. So the socket on the mother boardhas
to matchthe processor . Also the circuits in the motherboard itself must be
different for different processors.
8. RAM
RAM,or random–access-memory, is
a type of memorythat accesses faster
than mainmemory(like a hard drive
),but that onlystores datawhile the
computer is turned on , It is normally
used to store the program that your
computer is currentlyrunningand
anydatathat programneeds.
RAMis dividedintosmall blocksof
data,eachof whichcan be accessed by
a uniquenumber calledan address
10. Floppy disk
Storage devices– “How it saves data and
programs”
--hard disk drives are as internet higher
capacity drive which also stores the operating
system which runs when you power on the
computer.-
“floppy disk drives allow you to save work on
small disks and take the data with you
11. FEATURES :-FLOPPY DISK
Diskettes (Floppy Disk)
speed
very slow
Capacity:-
normally 1.44 mbytes.
Cost
very cheap
13. HARD DISKS
Hard disk
Speed
Veyfast =Thespeed of a hard diskis often quoted
as “average accesstime "speed, measured in
milliseconds . The smaller this numberthe faster
the disk.
Capacity:
Enormous Often 40/80gigabytes. A gigabyteis
equivalent to 1024Megabytes
COST:
Hard disk cost are fallingrapidlyand normally
represent the cheapest way of storingdata.
