What
is
Child
abuse
????
What is child abuse?
“Physical injury or death inflicted upon
a child by a parent or caretaker thereof
by other than accidental means . . .”
Types of Child abuse:
Physical abuse.
Sexual abuse.
Psychological abuse.
Neglect abuse
Emotional abuse.

Physical abuse is any intentional act
causing injury to another person. In

Bullying in school &
society:
Bullying in school &
society:
Our society has shrugged off
bullying by labelling it a ‘rite
of passage’ and by asking
students to ‘simply get over
it’.
Those attitude needs to
change. Every day students
are bullied into silence and
are afraid to speak up. Lets
break this silence and end
school bullying.
Current issues:
Parents who physically abuse their spouses
are more likely to physical abuse their children.
Whether domestic violence is cause of child
abuse or both are martial discord and abuse
are caused by tendencies in the abuser is still
debated.
Poverty
Lack of education
Mental and physical illness
Lack of support
Lack of parenting skills
Domestic violence
Continue…
They may become depressed.
They may have difficulty sleeping.
They have nightmares or flashback.
They may start to wet their beds.
They may become aggressive.
They may have an eating disorder.
Role of government:
UNICEF works with the Ministry of
Social Welfare and Special
Education, Government of
Pakistan, Ministry of Parliamentary
Affairs, Provincial Social Welfare
Departments, International and
national NGOs and other UN
agencies to protect children from
abuse, exploitation, violence,
discrimination and support the
establishement of a system
of juvenile(adult) justice.
 Ever since 1948 when its first office was
established in Pakistan, the United
Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has
been committed to the aspiration that
one day, each and every child in the
country, no matter where they live, or
their family circumstances, will be
guaranteed the right to survive.
Precautionary
measures:
 Be a nurturing parent. Children need to
know that they are special, loved and
capable of following their dreams
 Help a friend, neighbor or relative.
Being a parent isn’t easy
 Offer a helping hand- take care of the
children, so the parent(s) can rest or
spend time together
 Respect kids. Treat them the same way
you want to be treated.
 Help to develop parenting resources at
your local library – films, books, and
information.
 Promote programs in schools.
Teaching children, parents and
teachers prevention strategies can
help to keep children safe.
 Get involved. Advocate for services to
families
 Monitor your child’s television and video
viewing. Watching violent films and TV
programs harms young children. It scares
them, and teaches children that aggression
is a good way to handle frustration and
solve problems.
 Volunteer at a local child abuse program.
There are many family support, crisis need
volunteers to help families under stress.
Contact your local United Way office or
look in a telephone directory for agencies
in your community. If you can’t give time,
support the program with a donation.
 Report suspected abuse or neglect.
Keeping children safe is the
responsibility of every adult in the
community.
