4. Why this talk..
Entrepreneur journey is lonely
There are very few people who can give UNBIASED advise - I have
received the BEST advice from my entrepreneur mentors
I stumbled into many learning’s and this is the gist of what I have
learned in the last 15 years from EXPERIENCE
Sharing is caring., I wish India to be a superpower based on
Knowledge and power and not just on consumption and resources.
Grow India … and take it to a 5 TRILLION DOLLAR ECONOMY
I declare that I will drop everything and get into Politics by the time I
am 52 years old !!! That's my Payback to our Motherland and a
promise I made when I was 17
5. #1 - Unlearn, Learn and Relearn till the
last day
● The Knowledge circle
○ What I know I know
○ What I know I don’t know
○ What I don’t know I don’t know
● Unlearning is more important than learning
● What got me here won’t take me there
● Once I feel I know everything, I will stagnate
● When I invest into learning and development for
MYSELF and MY TEAM, only then will colossal
growth be done
6. #2: Find your Purpose and Set your Goals
● The Purpose of Life is to find a purpose and make it worthy of the purpose
● Law of Attraction - What you focus on manifests itself
○ Times when I review and think, the customer himself calls. Putting into my planner is MAGIC
● Set the goals else you will be driving the car without a destination.
○ Do Goal Setting regularly
○ Goals - This year - Next 3 years - Next 10 Years
○ Review it regularly
○ First 10 years I was growing by default with the goal only for the year.
○ Big Hairy Audacious Goals
● Risk taking ability should keep increasing with the age of the organization
○ Adlabs Imagica case
7. #3: We underestimate Others and
Overestimate ourselves
● If you want to walk fast - walk alone and if you want to walk far, walk together
● People make the organization
● Teamwork
○ Working with team and roles and responsibilities
● Delegation
○ Experience with the setting of the organization
○ Entrepreneurs Deal with Strategy - Leaders deal with Daily Complexity and cause transformation -
Managers deal with Transactions
○ Working on the reviews and reward and punishment
○ Be ruthless in hiring and retention
● Find our ”Core Forte” -
○ What I love doing and I get paid for not what I don’t like doing but can do well and its “cheaper” and
better for me to do it
8. #4: Hard Work alone does not pay -
Smart work does
● Since childhood we are taught to be hardworking
○ The “slow and steady” like the tortoise is taught to us and told not to be like rabbit
○ The Horse versus donkey
● Productivity versus number of hours at work - both for self and team
● We are our habits . The habits drive us
○ Wake up early …. 5 am
○ Plan your day
○ Exercise
○ Have a role model
● My Role Models - J.C. Kumar (my Dad), Richard Branson,
Ratan Tata, Elon Musk
9. #5: Price is what you pay and Value is
what you get
● Both in Buying and selling
● Unless we value ourselves the customer will never value you
● Unless we value the team - even at the cost of customer sometimes, the team
won't stick neck out for you
● The customer is NOT KING - King does not bargain!
● Walk away from where there is no value for you - whether customer, clients,
company, people, marriage, friends, etc
● Example of a client (GG) whom I refused to work with because of a clash of
value systems and they worked with low cost competition but 6 years later
came back -m Quality wins
10. #6: Can't Grow by Saving
● Saving is taught to us
● Building assets which are told will appreciate
● Invest into YOURSELF and TEAM
● Seeing luxury goods as goals
● Saving on employee costs, infra, machines, process
● Buying cheapest - never customer will buy the same
● Take the leap of faith
● Chase wealth and NOT money - its different
11. #7: Live each day like its your last
● When you come into the world….come crying and everyone laughs… when you
die live in a way that you laugh and the world cries
● No regret at deathbed
● Write your eulogy
● Live each day fully and intentionally
12. #8: Jo Dikhta hai woh bikta hai
● Your network is your net worth
● Stories sell both internally and externally
● Marketing is everything - Golf ball
● How to sell better
● We spend lots of time on operations and sales
but never on marketing
● Ideas versus inspiration …. one idea can
change your life Sirji
13. #9: Why Entrepreneurs Miss the Bus?
● Six Stages of the Growth
○ Grouping Stage (0-2)
○ Early Success Stage (2-5)
○ Growth Acceleration Stage (5-10)
○ Reorientation Stage (10-15)
○ Corporatization Stage (15-30)
○ Liberation Stage (30+)
● Desire to go from one stake to the other determines the success you want
○ It’s ok to be at ANY STAGE as long as it's your CHOICE. Else you will be frustrated
● CHAIRMAN - Baton passed from one generation to other at the right time . Baton
passing means - Authority, freedom (to make decisions and mistakes), strategy
● SHOULD be involved in strategy building and pushing people for growth. Look at
