God is our Keeper who cares for and protects us. He uses His Holy Spirit, Word, faith, grace, and intercession to sanctify and guide us, keeping us from harm. God's ultimate purpose in keeping us is to present us faultless before Him in glory.
2. And every day I’m still trying to understand Him
But I think I’ve found a Keeper
And I think I’m gonna keep Him,
And I know He intercedes
Daily
To the Father for me
He’s saying
‘Keep Her’
3. WHAT IS A KEEPER?
• keeper | ˈkiːpə |
• noun a person who manages or looks after something or someone: I'm
your friend, not your keeper.
• Psalms 121:5 The LORD [is] thy keeper: the LORD [is] thy shade upon thy
right hand.
• The office of a keeper suggests continuity, the Lord does not keep us in
a sense that is stagnant or static but keeps us progressively as we walk
with him
4. IT’S ESSENTIAL
• As humans we are of value, made in the image of God. We need to be
entrusted to someone for care
• You don’t know you need something from an external source until you
see it lacking in yourself
• God isn’t intimidated by our human depravity so He steps in & says:
calm I will be your Keeper
• John 3:24-25 TPT But Jesus did not yet entrust himself to them, because
he knew how fickle human hearts can be. He needed no one to tell him
about human nature, for he fully understood what man was capable of
doing.
5. BUT WHY GOD??
• HOLY
• CREATOR, MASTER AND KEEPER OF THE UNIVERSE.
• SHEPHERD
• FAITHFUL
• LOVE
6. THE SET UP
• POSITIONAL KEEPING
• He has us. HE won’t forsake us - won’t throw us away - won’t return us
• 'But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me; my Lord has forgotten me.” “Can a woman forget her nursing
child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not
forget you. Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me. '
Isaiah 49:14-16 ESV
• John 6:37, Col 3:3, 'Romans 8:15-16
• ACTIVE KEEPING
• He preserves us. He sustains us. He keeps us in safety and protection –
• Indeed, we felt within ourselves that we had received the [very] sentence of death, but that was to keep us
from trusting in and depending on ourselves instead of on God Who raises the dead. [For it is He] Who
rescued and saved us from such a perilous death, and He will still rescue and save us; in and on Him we
have set our hope (our joyful and confident expectation) that He will again deliver us [from danger and
destruction and draw us to Himself],' 2 Corinthians 1:9-1- AMPC
• Isaiah 43:2, Psalm 127: 1
7. THE SET UP CONTINUED…
• VITAL KEEPING
• He sanctifies us. He keeps us from stumbling. He keeps us in the ZOË. He keeps us going…
8. VITAL KEEPING
• ' Now to Him Who is able to keep you without stumbling or slipping or
falling, and to present [you] unblemished (blameless and faultless)
before the presence of His glory in triumphant joy and exultation [with
unspeakable, ecstatic delight]– To the one only God, our Savior through
Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory (splendor), majesty, might and dominion,
and power and authority, before all time and now and forever (unto all
the ages of eternity). Amen (so be it).' Jude 1:24-25 ampc
9. THE TOOLS
• Spirit of GOD
• Galatians 5:16 – But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and
controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires
of the flesh (of human nature without God).
• If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus
from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
Romans 8:11 ESV
10. THE TOOLS
• Word of GOD
• 'having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of
God which lives and abides forever, because “All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man
as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away, But the word of the
Lord endures forever.” Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you. I
Peter 1:23-25 NKJV
• ' Sanctify them [purify, consecrate, separate them for Yourself, make them holy] by the
Truth; Your Word is Truth.' John 17:17 AMPC
• 'Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one
another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the
Lord. ' Colossians 3:16 NKJV
• But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the
instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day
and by night. [Rom. 13:8-10; Gal. 3:1-29; II Tim. 3:16.]’ Psalm 1:2 AMPC
11. THE TOOLS
• Strengthening us in FAITH
• ' NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for,
being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as
real fact what is not revealed to the senses].' Hebrews 11:1 AMPC
• For in the Gospel a righteousness which God ascribes is revealed, both springing from faith and
leading to faith [disclosed through the way of faith that arouses to more faith]. As it is written,
The man who through faith is just and upright shall live and shall live by faith. [Hab. 2:4.]'
Romans 1:17 AMPC
• Have the roots [of your being] firmly and deeply planted [in Him, fixed and founded in Him],
being continually built up in Him, becoming increasingly more confirmed and established in the
faith, just as you were taught, and abounding and overflowing in it with thanksgiving. See to it
that no one carries you off as spoil or makes you yourselves captive by his so-called philosophy
and intellectualism and vain deceit (idle fancies and plain nonsense), following human tradition
(men's ideas of the material rather than the spiritual world), just crude notions following the
rudimentary and elemental teachings of the universe and disregarding [the teachings of] Christ
(the Messiah) Col 2:7-8
12. MORE TOOLS!
• Grace of GOD
• ' And from there they sailed back to Antioch, where they had [first] been
commended to the grace of God for the work which they had [now]
completed.' Acts 14:26
• 1 Corin 15:10
• INTERCESSION
• 'Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is
to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was
raised— who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. '
Romans 8:33-34 ESV
13. PURPOSE = GLORY
• ' ' But thanks be to God, Who in Christ always leads us in triumph [as
trophies of Christ's victory] and through us spreads and makes evident
the fragrance of the knowledge of God everywhere, For we are the sweet
fragrance of Christ [which exhales] unto God, [discernible alike] among
those who are being saved and among those who are perishing:'
• 2 Corinthians 2:14-15
14. PURPOSE = GLORY
