Gil Cates, a long time Oscar producer, saw this coming a month before the 1999
Oscars. He was quoted to have said, “If X wins, be prepared for a very very long
show”
As predicted, X won, and his acceptance has been regarded as one of the weirdest
in modern times. Walking on the back of seats of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion,
including Steven Spielberg’s seat, X’s speech included gems like:
“I feel like I could dive into this ocean of generosity”
“I would like to be Jupiter and kidnap everybody and lie down in the firmament
making love to everybody!”
4. Ian Mckellen, who was also nominated for the Best Actor category was quoted to
have said to a fellow nominee Nick Nolte, ‘Nick, I don’t care if you win or if I win
or if the guy with the bald head and the swastikas wins. But if that little _______
fart wins, I’m gonna have a fit.'
ID X, which film?

At the 87th Academy Awards, Neil Patrick Harris decided to recreate an iconic
scene from one of the Best Picture nominees for that year. The film was
heralded for the way it was shot, with lots of praise going for the soundtrack
as well, which primarily consisted of just a single instrument.
But Neil soon realized that if he were to pull this off, he would have to make a
slight modification to what he was doing as under the red lights of the
auditorium, it would’ve given the audience too much to see.
What did he do to make the sketch successful?

This moment has frequently been called “the most famous ______ in the
world”.
Originally, the host planned to carry this out with only the actress, who could
be considered the greatest of our generation, but chaos ensued when many A-
listers started joining in on the act.
The moment had been practiced a lot of times by the host to ensure that there
would be no screw-ups during the show, and when the host wasn’t in control
of the situation anymore, panic ensued in his/her mind.
But as fate would have it, this moment became one of the most iconic in Oscar
history, breaking Twitter, with nearly 750,000 retweets in 45 minutes.

The Oscars have had plenty of bad hosts over the years, and X and Y are right
up there on the list of worst hosts of all time.
What made it worse was that X seemed a lot livelier backstage, tweeting
moments when he wasn’t on stage, and all the more dead when he was on
stage. One twitter user remarked that, “Whatever he thought he would bring
to the proceedings seem to have been lost by the time the show started, he
probably would have actually cut off his ___ in order to escape” taking a dig at
X’s film that was nominated for that year.
ID X and Y, who would go on to win an Oscar for a role that she would later
remark, put her through one of the worst bouts of depression in her life.
8. 5
The release of this film threw X into the limelight, and even though he was
new to Hollywood and had little clout, he decided to boycott the Oscars that
year in protest.
He boycotted the event in protest of being nominated in what he considered,
the wrong category. This made sense to some people, as Y (in the same film as
X), who had been nominated in that category, actually had lesser screen time
as X.
But this whole event would go relatively unnoticed when the Y, winner of the
category X wanted to be nominated for, was actually missing when his name
was called, and then occurred one of the most controversial events in Oscar
history.

On August 8th 2018, the academy announced a proposal to release this new
category, something that hadn’t been done since the 2001 addition of Best
Animated Feature.
The proposal was met with an overwhelmingly negative response and many
viewed it as an effort to pander to the mainstream audience and to improve
ratings.
But there were also a few positive responses, with some critics talking about
the recognition of blockbuster pictures through this award, so that filmmakers
would not only focus on artistry, but on mainstream appeal as well.

When X announced the Best Picture award, he followed it up by saying:
“Who gave this son of a b**ch a green card?”
The joke didn’t go well with the film community and Twitter users voiced their
outrage. But Y, the person at whom the comment was made, found it quite
hilarious, commenting that, “X and I had that kind of brutal relationship where
only true friendship can survive. When I was directing him in ’__ _____,’ he
was always making jokes … I made a lot of very tough jokes (to him) that I will
not tell you.”

X and Y’s passionate performance at the Oscars has been lauded by critics and
the public.
Apart from the actors’ unmistakable chemistry, the way it was shot was also
unconventional. The opening shot was facing the audience with a piano, and X
and Y rising from their seats and taking their places on stage.
One of Y’s collaborators revealed that X had been extremely nervous before
going on stage, as it wasn’t his forte, but after the performance, it was clear
that X had absolutely killed it.
Many memes sprouted up after the performance due to the intimacy that they
showed on stage.
