FNI since 3 years
Economic factors (high prices,

slowdown in the situation (Liberia,
Sierra Leone);
Conflict and insecurity remain the main drivers
of food insecurity in the Lac Chad basin
(Nigeria, Chad and Niger), Liptako Gourma

Large displacement of population
because of conflict and insecurity.

12. TREND OF NUMBER OF POPULATIONS ESTIMATED IN CH
PHASE 3 TO WORST : 2016 - 2021
13.
14. ● Insecurity in the major driver with massive displacement of the
population in North-east and North-west of Niger, in the ALG zone
(Burkina Faso-Niger-Mali)
● intensification of attacks by armed groups and finally, in western
and central north Nigeria where the phenomenon of kidnapping
and sequestration is increasingly contributing to a climate of terror
and fear in the affected States.
● the residual effects of COVID 19 continue to deteriorate the
economic conditions of populations exacerbated by high inflation,
particularly in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.
Acute FNI Drivers
15. ● Increasing of Food Prices more than 10% compared to the five-year
average in half the countries of the region. In the Western Basin,
however, there is a stability or even a slight decrease in prices
compared to the past period, although prices are still up 15%
compared to the average.
● Household incomes are severely degraded and are disrupting food
access in countries such as Sierra Leone and Liberia due to the
decline in purchasing power combined with high inflation, as well as
in areas affected by insecurity, particularly in the Liptako Gourma
area and North-east and North-west of Nigeria.
Acute FNI Drivers
16. THE GOVERNMENTS AND PARTNERS

populations "crisis and worse" located mainly in north-east and north-
west States of Nigeria, Lake Chad and northern Chad, northern and
western Niger, northern Burkina Faso, northern Mali, and southeastern
Mauritania, Liberia, Sierra Leone.
Support the deployment of humanitarian assistance by ensuring access to
inaccessible areas of northern Nigeria, northern and central Mali, Burkina
Faso, Chad and Niger.

young people

acute malnutrition in areas where alert rates are reported,
including in the Lake Chad Basin, Liptako de Gourma
are recommended to
18. CILSS AND PARTNERS

and nutrition situation in Liberia and Sierra Leone before
the June 2021 PREGEC;

Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Cabo
Verde,
19. How to reach SDG 2 in the
Sahel and West Africa in a

of the international
community?
