visiting Nanda Devi peaks. The author’s
journey to ‘ The Land Of Snow’ was a
wonderful experience.
4. The village of Milam:
When the author stepped off the bus in Munsiyari, he
was delighted to see the five peaks of Panchchuli. They
represented the pandavas. Munsiyari was once a busy
trade centre. The four day trek took the author to the
village of Milam.
5. The Trekking Experience:
On the sixth day, it was raining hard. Howling winds,
clouds, hails and storms prevented their trekking. The
trekkers were at a height of 4000m. They could not get
firewood to keep themselves warm. After a day, they
reached Ragash Kund. But the Nanda Pal glacier and
Mandayo impressed them.
6. Twin peaks of Nanda Devi: At last they came to the
glaciered region. After a hard walk, they came to
the ponds Dudh and Suraj Kund. The weather
was not favourable. They trod on the glacier
rubble.
7. The local people believed that demons and
evils lived in glaciered region. Yet they
ventured to Bilju. Facing Bilju were the
twin peaks of Nanda Devi. They looked
like the goddess Nanda Devi herself.
8. Conclusion:
In this travelogue, the author beautifully
explains the highest peaks, ominous
glaciers, the glacier rubble and the
landslide that captivate the trekkers.
