As part of RDT’s corporate responsibility they have written and

nursing care home in conservation area. Planning success
was granted following an 8 month period of negotiation and
dialogue with the District Council, English Heritage and local
community groups. The proposed design accommodates a
modern home within a traditional building taking precedent
from the local context of Georgian vernacular architecture.

RDT design provided the civil and structural engineering design
for a new medical outpatient rehabilitation and palliative care
unit.
The new facility has been formed within an existing three
storey disused office building, which has been completely
refurbished both internally and externally to form a modern
care facility. The new facility includes additional counselling
and treatment rooms to complement the existing provision as
well as the introduction of a new art room, music room,
conference room and additional office administration space.
The new building will also benefit from a total re-design of the
existing car park, vehicle ramp access and landscaping
scheme to significantly increase the car parking provision,
whilst making the buildings and car park area fully DDA
compliant.

RDT Design were appointed by Mace to provide architectural
planning and working drawings for the alterations and
refurbishment of an existing SEAC steel framed building at the
front of Woodhalll School in South Oxhey. The completed
building will contain a general activity area, secure entrance
lobby, reception office, kitchen, toilets, a baby change room,
stores and a generous outside play area which is partly
covered with a new canopy. The building will be completed in
February 2010.

engineering design for new community facilities and Sure Start
Children's Centre. Within this 500m2 refurbished
accommodation services offered include parenting family
support, children and family health care and access to
employment and training. Facilities in the building includes a
consultation room, kitchen, crèche, training room and
administration support.

Barton Hall is a grand Grade ll listed manor house. With late
16th century origins the hall was remodelled and enlarged in
1856 by James and Turner of Norwich.
Work comprised external structural condition report and

and structural details relating to the internal alteration works.

The National Institute of Agricultural Botany (NIAB) operates a
large research and development facility at Impington near
Cambridge. The main project was to expand this facility onto
adjoining land to provide glasshouses, farm buildings and
research and development buildings.
RDT Design have provided the architectural and structural
engineering design for the new services building with the most
complex aspect being the co-ordination of the equipment
within the building and the incoming and outgoing services
below the ground.
Externally, the walls of the building are finished with horizontal
cedar cladding and the flat roof has a single membrane finish.
The main plant room accommodates two large biomass
boilers with buffer tanks and there is also a transformer
compound, low voltage switch room, communications room,
two large storage areas, a potting room and a biomass fuel
store.

Full Sutton is an operational grain store facility located in the
middle of an existing, out of town, industrial estate, which is on
the edge of a small commercial airfield and more generally
surrounded by farmland.
RDT acted as lead consultant in the expansion of the existing
grain store facility incorporating a new multi-bay portal frame
store for 2,100T of grain, single span portal frame store for
6,100T of grain, relocation of grain dryers, justification of
existing buildings for increased grain storage, new yard slabs
and access roads.
Produced contract documentation for tendering purposes
under a JCT Intermediate Contact with nominated specialist
subcontractors and acted as clients agent during the
construction phase.
