This document provides study strategies for maximizing class value, preparing for tests, and evaluating performance. It recommends pre-reading if practice problems will be covered, sitting at the front of the class, and reviewing notes after each lecture. For tests, it advises prioritizing exams based on weight, tailoring approach to subject matter, and redoing missed questions. Technical classes require practicing processes while memorization classes involve summarizing textbooks. Students should simulate test conditions when practicing with past exams. After a test, strategies should be evaluated and adjusted based on performance. Relaxation and healthy eating are also emphasized.
4. Maximizing Class Value Before Pre-Reading is not always necessary Though, if there are practice problems being taken up in class, do them before hand... It helps During Choose the right place to sit Sit in the front to ensure you don`t look at your phone Sit away from the doors so you aren`t distracted
5. Maximizing Class Value After Look over notes once before the next lecture Go to tutorials! Relax How about Test Week? Prioritize your tests, which are worth more? Take into account the subject in your approach
6. Technical Classes Examples: ECO100, MAT133, RSM100 (2ndPart) If you don’t understand the concept, its OK! Focus on process before understanding With practice of the process, you will develop intuition If you still don’t understand the concept Use available resources: Professors Math Aid Centre (SS, Some Colleges) Economics Study Centre (GE, North of Robarts)
7. Memorization Classes Examples: RSM100, AST101, ENV200 These classes are usually based on textbooks Thus, memorize the textbook... It may seem daunting, but find ways to summarize Type out notes Determine topics that are most obvious for test questions (Eg. Bolded words, Groups of Information) Use acronyms to memorize processes/groups of info For some it may take longer to memorize than others
8. Past Tests Simulate test environment as best as possible Don’t look at the solutions until you’ve completed the entire test Isolate yourself in your room or in a library Take inventory of questions you can’t do Use solutions to understand Discuss these problems with friends Redo questions you didn’t get the first time Save one test to do near test day after studying is completed to evaluate your understanding
9. After the Test... I DID AMAZING Awesome! Continue your study strategy. I did ok... Not what I’m used to Evaluate study strategy What worked in High School won’t work now Try to use other people’s study strategies From here you can develop your own I failed... Same as above, but more importantly, forget about it You have more chances to make it up Out of 20 Credits, 1 bad Mark won’t kill your GPA!
10. Other Helpful Things RELAX! SERIOUSLY, DON’T STUDY 24/7 ITS UNHEALTHY, AND UNPRODUCTIVE (Burn Out!) Don’t worry about eating junk food You can burn it off after (Dragon Boat – Today!) Try to eat healthy, but don’t freak out if you don’t Fruit, Granola Bars, Sandwiches are great study foods
