literacy, which is an essential component of a
healthy lifestyle. Physically literate individuals
are competent, confident, and motivated to
move. Every child is predisposed to be active if
the environment encourages participation.

provides a sedentary setting with at least 6
hours spent sitting inside the classroom.
Physical Education (PE) is the only subject in
the curriculum that provides opportunities for
moderate-to-vigorous physical activities to
counteract this sedentariness.

Our youth needs to participate in daily
physical activities at moderate-to-vigorous
intensity levels for at least 60 minutes to
optimize their health. In order to achieve this,
there is a need for a school sports program
that will supplement and complement the PE
curriculum.

program aims to promote and sustain sports clubs

c. Organize formally the Sports Club/s with a
minimum of three (3) of the six (6) mandatory
sports (Athletics, Swimming, Chess, Arnis,
DanceSport, and Sepak Takraw). Schools may also
offer preferred sports in addition to the mandatory
sports, which should be based on the school’s
capacity and readiness.

d. Program time allocation shall be at least twice a
week for a minimum total of three (3) hours a
week. In the case of the Varsity Club, a minimum
of five (hours) is recommended.

schedule) shall be the prerogative of the School
Head.

- The DepED Core values are fundamental beliefs of
the Department as an institution. This shall serve
as guiding principles on the manner on how
teachers and learners should behave and act as
they participate in the Sports Club activities
towards achieving and fulfilling the organization’s
goal.
DEPED CORE VALUES
School head • Assess the readiness and capacity of the school by referring to the Enhanced School Improvement Plan, Annual Implementation Plan, and the Office and Individual Performance Commitment Review Forms to validate entry points in the management of the school’s sports club program; • Ensure the efficient and effective implementation of the policies and guidelines regarding the school’s sports club program; • Organize and designate the faculty and personnel of the program; • Supervise the faculty and personnel concerned in program implementation; • Establish partnership and linkages, both internally (e.g. school canteen, Parents-Teachers Association) and externally, to source funds that will augment the school’s budget allocation for the program.
Sports club coordinator • Assist the school head in: • assessing the school’s capacity and readiness to implement the school sports club program; • preparing the physical, human and fiscal resources that will support program implementation; • organizing the various sports clubs and seeking the involvement of the parents and other stakeholders; and • managing the sports club program which includes recreational sports.
Sports club facilitator • Ensure the alignment of the sports club and PE curriculum standards; • Promote character formation through sports by ensuring the integration of values in the sports club training plans and activities; • Engage the club parent leader, coach, trainer and members in the planning of club activities and schedule; • Mentor the coaches; • Promote program awareness and encourage student participation; • Supervise the sports club activities and monitor the implementation of the work plan; • Document all club activities for reporting purposes; • Pursue professional growth through training and certification courses.
Parent leader • Enhance and support parent involvement in the sports club program; • Advocate for the involvement of parents and students in recreational sports; • Inform parents of the school sports club program activities; • Provide assistance to the sports club coordinator in supplementing sports club resources; • Assist in the documentation of club activities for reporting purposes.
Coach • Work closely with the sports club coordinator and facilitator in implementing the PE curriculum by synergizing or articulating the sports club training plans and activities to the PE curriculum content; • Plan and implement an annual sports plan that will be responsive to the needs of club members for play, recreation, training, competition and recovery; • Assist club members in achieving physical literacy; • Promote character formation through sports by developing the club members’ moral and social responsibility as well as their sports potential; • Provide guidance to club members in their sports pathways and in achieving balance in their academic and sports participation; • Maintain inventory and secure equipment and supplies; 6 SPORTS CLUB GUIDE I • Be a role model to club members; • Pursue professional growth through training and certification courses. •
Assistant coach • Assist the coach in the implementation of the annual sports plan; • Prepare the logistics for sports club activities; • Conduct training sessions with the supervision of the coach; • Pursue professional growth through training and certification courses.
Club officers: • Plan with the sports club facilitator the schedule of club activities which includes recreation, and assist in their implementation; • Assist the sports facilitator and coach in complying with administrative requirements of members such as collection of names of current roster and their contact details, completion of waivers and submission of parental consent; • Publicize club activities, schedule and game/competition results; • Follow all policies and procedures that govern the school sports club program; • Serve as liaison between the club members and the sports club facilitator.
Club member: • Register voluntarily for club membership; • Participate actively in club activities; • Inform club officers of membership withdrawal.
