1. Who is Sandrokottos?
In his 1st century CE work on Alexander, Greek biographer Plutarch wrote about
how Alexander had met Sandrokottos who would eventually defeat Agrammes or
Xandrames. Sanskrit scholar and linguist, William Jones, chanced upon the answer
to the identity of Sandrokottos when he came across a Sanskrit play Mudrarakshasa
by Vishakhadatta. Who is Sandrokottos?

2. Who are we talking about?
Basava Premanand was a rationalist and one time publisher of India Skeptic. Once
he famously ﬁled a Civil Writ Petition in Andhra Pradesh High Court under Indian
Gold Control Act! He wanted the government to proceed against an individual for

rock near Raigiri, Bhongir (then Nalgonda District) on a mountainside was found. For
over a year, hundreds of labourers helped the temple architect and builder
S.M.Ganapathi Sthapati create the monolith. The monolith stood at 58 feet (18 m)
and weighed 350 ton. For the transport of the monolith, the roads of the city were
widened and it was erected on a concrete platform. The first attempt at the final leg
of the transportation failed, with human casualties. After a 2 year salvage operation,
the monolith was "pulled out". The final installation happened in 1992 and a

8. What Activity?
Though illegal, the activity is a favourite of people living in the coastal region of
Andhra Pradesh, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts of Tulu Nadu region of
Karnataka, and the state of Tamil Nadu in India. Knockout matches to the death are
widely practised in Andhra Pradesh. In Tamil Nadu, the winner is decided after three
or four rounds. The activity peaks around Makar Sankranti in coastal Andhra
Pradesh. The 'participants' in the activity get "a diet of almond, cashews and minced
meat, healthy exercise, and occasional injections of muscle-building hormones and
antibiotics". Traditionally, the 'participants' are categorised into categories like Dega
(eagle), Kaaki (crow), Pearl and Nemali (peacock). The Dega are said to be more
ferocious during noon hours, while the `peacock’ would ﬁght down the rival in the

the Aravali hills. X was founded during the rule of Jalal-ud-din Khilji by a Mewati
chieftain. The town was given as reward to Faiz Talab Khan, a Pashtun of the Barech
tribe for aiding the Company against the Maratha Empire during the Second

The original surname of the family had been Gorhe and had its origins in the village of
Katgun, in present day Satara District, Maharashtra. X's great-grandfather worked as a

Completed in 1946, X is considered Y’s magnum opus. Spread across 17 canvases, Y
created this masterpiece series in Kalighat pata style with natural colors, using
earth, chalk powder and vegetable colors instead of dyes. Later, Y also created
individual replicas capturing various moments from the entire series. Some of these
paintings have been preserved in the National Art Gallery of India and are also in
display in the Victoria Memorial Hall. All his 17 canvases are frequently

Saharan and Kapil Bharati - X started as the last mile logistics service in Gurgaon and
later extended to NCR region. In 2011, the online retailing segment was expanding
rapidly in India, with global investors demonstrating significant interest. Founders
Barua and Tandon, who were then working as consultants with the management
consulting firm Bain & Company, were intrigued by the size and potential of the

The author of the hymn is Henry Francis Lyte, who was an Anglican minister and was
composed in the 1820s. The hymn is popular across many Christian denominations

Day services in Australia and New Zealand, and in some Remembrance Day services

8. What was Maharaj Singh's day job?
On 25th November in 1950, at the age of 72 years and 192 days, Raja Sir Maharaj
Singh playing for the Bombay Governor’s XI against the touring Commonwealth XI
at the Brabourne Stadium. On his debut, Maharaj walked out to bat at No.9. He
faced the off-spinner Jim Laker against whom he picked up a three and a single.
However, he edged one to slips against the same bowler to be dismissed for four
runs. Raja Maharaj did take the ﬁeld after batting in the ﬁrst innings but was absent

The Hornby Vellard was a project to build a causeway uniting all seven islands of
Bombay into a single island with a deep natural harbour. The project was started by
the governor William Hornby in 1782 and all islands were linked by 1838.
Apparently after portions of the sea wall of the Vellard collapsed twice, the chief
engineer, a Pathare Prabhu, named Ramji Shivji Prabhu, dreamt of a statue in the sea
near Worli. A search recovered it. After this, the work on the vellard could be
completed without a hitch. What happened to the statue ?

1. The Song?
The person you see in the picture is Manoj Muntashir, a poet and lyricist. Among his most
famous works is a song that he wrote which was set to tune by Mithoon. This song originally
was written as a nazm while the poet was in Kashmir while at the Dal Lake and thinking about
his wife. The song had two versions, one by Arijit Singh and Sasha Tirupati and another by
Shraddha Kapoor.
