3. 1841 – Calotype Process
• •Introduced by Fox Talbot
• •Later known as the "Talbotype” process
• •This was a negative/positive process that only took a few minutes
• The process involved much shorter exposure times in the camera (one hour
compared to one minute)
• Because of this production became much more convenient which allowed work to get
out faster
5. 1851 – Wet Plate Collodtion
• Introduced by English sculptor Fredrick Scott Archer
• This process was done by spreading a mixture of collodion and chemicals on
sheets of glass
• Being much simpler, this process quickly became popular
• The wet plate process is also able to capture extremely sharp detail making it
the best, and most used option at the time
7. 1861 – Color Separation Method
• Introduced by Scottish physicist James Clerk-Maxwell
• This method was achieved by using three black and white photographs
• *Each photo must be taken using a colored filter*
• After this, the photos were turned into lantern slides and projected in registration
with the same color filter
• This was important because color separation allows viewers to focus on sole parts
of an image
• The color separation brought greater detail to images thus making peoples work
more attrative

• This device was the first digital still camera on the market
• Allowed photojournalists to take images at the best possible quality and easily
