4. VR is an emerging technology with a short but interesting past.
Important points of its history follow:
In 1935, US science fiction writer
Stanley G. Weinbaum described and
foreshadowed a concept like VR in his
story Pygmalion’s Spectacles (Dredge,
2016).
In 1961, Philco Corporation engineers developed
the first VR system with a head-mounted display,
called the Headsight (Strickland, 2016).
VR’s current importance began in 2010, when US
entrepreneur Palmer Luckey created a prototype VR
headset which would become the Oculus Rift (Dredg
2016).
In 1966, US computer scientist Ivan
Sutherland built the first VR head-
mounted display linked to a computer
system, instead of to a camera (Strickland,
2016).

Battlefield environment simulations through VR’s 3D graphics library,
including combat scenarios and weapons and equipment training, can
create very realistic battlefield environments. Users can interact with
objects in the virtual environments to generate feelings and
experiences of "immersion" equal to real environments.

In Germany, the University of Hamburg’s medical college used CT and MRT
cross-sectional images to create a 3D visualized virtual human body model,
and used virtual technology to establish a model of human organs. Such
virtual human bodies can undergo real clinical experiences according to
doctors’ decisions, and can make realistic relative responses.

3D virtual fitting uses a computer simulation of the actual environment
for customers to try cloths. The 3D virtual fitting system has four
functions: choosing, fitting, displaying, and modifying clothes
