Arsène Lupin vs. __ __ is a collection of two adventures of
Arsène Lupin, written by Maurice LeBlanc.
These adventures feature a match of wits between Lupin
and __ __ , a transparent reference to Sherlock Holmes.
LeBlanc originally wanted to use Sherlock Holmes as an
adversary for Lupin (and did in one early short story), but
after complaints by Arthur Conan Doyle, he created this
obvious substitute.
While somewhat caricature-ish, __ __ is a much more
extreme version of Sherlock Holmes, sharp and bitter,
aided by his good friend and chronicler Wilson (i.e. Watson).

The first X advert ran on October 29, 1993, and featured a hapless history buff receiving
a call to answer a radio station's $10,000 trivia question, “Who shot Alexander Hamilton
in that famous duel?" (referring to the Burr–Hamilton duel). He answers the question
correctly, saying “Aaron Burr", but because his mouth is full of peanut butter, his
answer is unintelligible.
X is a powerful property and has been licensed on a range of consumer goods, including
Barbie dolls, Hot Wheels, baby and teen apparel, and kitchenware. The trademarked
line has been widely parodied by groups championing a variety of causes.
In 2006, the campaign went after a new demographic with a series of Spanish language
“Toma Leche?”
On February 24, 2014, it was announced that the 20-year old slogan would be
discontinued, in favor of a new tagline Y.

Before the advent of modern-day technology in cricket, field umpires had little to rely on
apart from their own instinct and judgment (No 3rd umpire, action replay, hawk-eye,
snick-o-meter, etc.)
Taking advantage of this shortcoming, the fielding side would often try to influence the
umpire’s decision when appealing for a caught behind or a run-out.
A common strategy was to start celebrating before the batsman was actually declared out
by the umpire, causing the umpire to decide the verdict in their favour.
This would generally start with the wicket-keeper/ fielder starting with a vociferous
appeal, soon followed by the entire team celebrating in a manner that suggested that the
batsman was indeed out, often prompting the desired decision from the umpire.

Rubie's Costume Company, New York, is the world's largest designer, manufacturer and
distributor of Halloween costumes and accessories.
The company sells well over 100,000 of this product every year, which is a best-seller on
amazon.com, amazon.co.uk and amazon.de. Worn in protests against NATO, big banks
and Big Brother in general, this product is made in Mexico or China and retails for
$6.49, £5.16 or €10.50.
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange wore one, so did his girlfriend Lindsay Mills. It has
been banned in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Canada. In the words of one reviewer
on the site, it is "very useful to hide your identity from the public while you go about your
anonymous deeds".
Another interesting fact is for each of the aforementioned product sold, a cut of the
profits goes to Warner Brothers, who own the copyrights to it.

It’s written in a script called Tatsama. It forms the first of five stanzas of a
Brahmo hymn composed and scored by a great Nobel laureate from India. It
was falsely propagated by colonial authorities that the song was written and
first sung to praise and felicitate a certain class of people on their visit to
India. The originator of this song wrote down the English translation of the
song and along with Margaret Cousins (an expert in European music and wife
of Irish poet James Cousins), set down the notation at a particular place in
Andhra Pradesh, which is followed only when the song is sung in the original
slow rendition style of singing.

Due to the Sun's blazing light and heat, she was unable to go near the Sun.
She complained to her father about this. Vishvakarma took the Sun and made
him shine less so that his daughter would be able to hug the Sun. The left

This phrase owes its origin to the 1999 book "The Pragmatic Programmer" by Andrew
Hunt and finds its existence in Software Engineering where many programmers have
had the experience of explaining a programming problem to someone else, possibly
even to someone who knows nothing about programming, and then hitting upon the
solution in the process of explaining the problem.
In describing what the code is supposed to do and observing what it actually does, any
incongruity between these two becomes apparent.
Also called “talking to the bear”, this phenomenon suggests that by making use of an
inanimate object, the programmer can try to accomplish results without having to
involve another person.

During an interview, Jay Leno, an avid car and bike collector told the reporter of an
incident when he was riding one of his prized possessions.
This one had a custom-made personalized speaking LCD dash display and a scrolling
LED sign on the back that said – CAUTION – EXTREMELY HOT – KEEP BACK.
However, an overly curious car driver inched closer and closer to check out Leno’s ride
at a stop light.
What Leno saw next in the rear view camera was nothing short of shocking: the car’s
front bumper had started to melt rapidly.
Luckily for Leno, the lights soon turned green and he pulled away before a complete
meltdown.

An important figure in Native American mythology is the X,
which represents the natural forces of lighting and thunder.
Depictions of this creature can be found on several totem poles
in various Native American cultures.
Usually described as a huge bird, the X is large enough to carry
off a whale to eat and to split open trees to find insects for food.
The Algonquian people consider them to be ancestors of the
human race, involved with the creation of the universe.
A Lakota Sioux myth says that the great X Wakan Tanka was
the grandson of the sky spirit that created the world and put
people on it.
But the water spirit Unktehi and her followers tried to drown
them. Wakan Tanka came to fight Unktehi and sent lightning
crashing to earth. The ground split open, and Unktehi and her
followers drained into the cracks.

In 1938, he went to Africa as employee of Shell Oil Company but
when WWII broke, he signed-up with the RAF in Nairobi and
learned to fly Tiger Moths.
While flying an obsolete Gloster Gladiator, with some inaccurate
coordinates in the Libyan desert, he ran out of daylight and fuel
at the same time, and crashed and burned in no-man's-land.
With a fractured skull and a bashed in nose, he was blind for
some days, but six months later he joined 80 Squadron, that flew
Hurricanes instead of Gladiators. With a mere 7 hours training
on Hurricanes, he shot down two enemy bombers.
Thereafter, he flew missions every day for 4 weeks, when he
began to get blinding headaches and blackouts mid-air,
whereupon he was invalided home to Britain.
This marked the start of a second career, for which he is more
famously remembered.

Pule cheese (pronounced pullay) is produced at only one location in the world and fetches
the highest price of any cheese on earth. Made at the Zasavica Special Nature Preserve,
pule is made from the endangered Balkan donkeys' milk and costs a whopping £800 per kg.
It is said to take 25 litres of fresh donkey milk to make a single kilogram of the cheese,
which the reserve claims is the most expensive in the world. The reserve also produces
bottled donkeys' milk, which is said to have been a beauty secret of legendary Egyptian
queen Cleopatra.
Towards the end of 2012, it was reported that a certain individual had purchased the entire
supply of pule cheese for the year 2013, which caused a massive surge in the popularity of
pule worldwide. It was also reported that he allegedly spent a major chunk of his earnings
from his entire last season, on this purchase, with the intention of using use it in his chain

Zaha Hadid (in pic), considered one of the world's best female
architects, has designed some architectural marvels in the
last few years.
Some of her recent works include the world’s largest airport
passenger terminal in Beijing and the Heydar Aliyev Center
in Baku, Azerbaijan, amongst others.
One of her creations however, has attracted a great deal of
unwanted attention and criticism.
What was inspired by the dhow boat that carried generations
of local fishermen and pearl divers, has been slammed by
critics as something that resembles a woman’s genitalia.
Hadid, winner of the prestigious 2004 Pritzker Architecture

have been the same level of criticism.

“I reached the town of Ameroyo at dawn about three days after the explosion. I met a farmer
who told me of this young girl who needed help. He took me to her, she was almost on her own at
the time, just a few people around and some rescuers helping someone else a bit further away…I
could hear people screaming for help and then silence – an eerie silence. It was very haunting.
There were a few helicopters, some that had been loaned by an oil company, trying to rescue
people. Then there was this little girl and people were powerless to help her. The rescuers kept
coming back to her, local farmers and some people who had some medical aid. They tried to
comfort her. When I took the pictures I felt totally powerless in front of this little girl, who was
facing death with courage and dignity. She could sense that her life was going. By this stage, X

“Superman” came to Earth as a baby from the planet Krypton; on Earth he had super
strength, X-ray vision and could fly. The source of Superman's powers has changed subtly
over the course of his history. It was originally stated that Superman's abilities derived from
his Kryptonian heritage, which made him eons more evolved than humans. This was soon
amended, with the source for the powers now based upon the establishment of Krypton's
gravity as having been stronger than that of the Earth. This situation mirrors that of Edgar
Rice Burroughs' John Carter. As Superman's powers increased, the implication that all
Kryptonians had possessed the same abilities became problematic for writers, making it
doubtful that a race of such beings could have been wiped out by something as trifling as an
exploding planet. In part to counter this, the Superman writers did something spectacular.

According to the Online Etymology Dictionary, this word originated sometime in
the 1520s and meant “to move heavily or unsteadily.” Believed to be as a
corruption of a Scandinavian word, its meaning has evolved into that of "hanging
loosely or heavily," and by 1794 picked up the additional meanings of "booty or
plunder" and "a hanging wreath or garland."
In modern context, the word may be used as a business lingo for promotional
merchandise, but its online usage has been largely attributed to its root word
which Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines as:
‘to conduct oneself in an arrogant or superciliously pompous manner; especially:
to walk with an air of overbearing self-confidence’
In Australia, the word may colloquially refer to a bundle of belongings, generally
carried by a hobo.

the Creator thought he had finished giving the ones their colours, he heard

“X” was delighted to wear such a light blue shade. Henry IV adopted “X” as
his symbol during his exile in 1398, and retained the symbol upon his return
to England the following year.

forgotten by their lovers. “X” was often worn by ladies as a sign of faithfulness
and enduring love.

It is a more growingly popular team sport in North America that may have developed as early
as 1100 AD among indigenous peoples on the continent. By the seventeenth century, it was
well-established. It was documented by Jesuit missionary priests in the territory of present-
day Canada.
In the traditional aboriginal version, each team consisted of about 100 to 1,000 men on a field
that stretched from about 500 meters to 3 kilometers long. These games lasted from sunup to
sundown for two to three days straight. These games were played as part of ceremonial ritual,
a kind of symbolic warfare, to give thanks to the Creator or Master.
The game played a significant role in the community and religious life of tribes across the
continent for many years. Early versions of this game was characterized by deep spiritual
involvement, befitting the spirit of combat in which it was undertaken. Those who took part
did so in the role of warriors, with the goal of bringing glory and honor to themselves and
their tribes. The game was said to be played "for the Creator" or was referred to as "The
Creator's Game."
How do we now understand this game ?

  • 6. Arsène Lupin vs. __ __ is a collection of two adventures of Arsène Lupin, written by Maurice LeBlanc. These adventures feature a match of wits between Lupin and __ __ , a transparent reference to Sherlock Holmes. LeBlanc originally wanted to use Sherlock Holmes as an adversary for Lupin (and did in one early short story), but after complaints by Arthur Conan Doyle, he created this obvious substitute. While somewhat caricature-ish, __ __ is a much more extreme version of Sherlock Holmes, sharp and bitter, aided by his good friend and chronicler Wilson (i.e. Watson). Fill in the blanks (2 words) 2

  • 9. The first X advert ran on October 29, 1993, and featured a hapless history buff receiving a call to answer a radio station's $10,000 trivia question, “Who shot Alexander Hamilton in that famous duel?" (referring to the Burr–Hamilton duel). He answers the question correctly, saying “Aaron Burr", but because his mouth is full of peanut butter, his answer is unintelligible. X is a powerful property and has been licensed on a range of consumer goods, including Barbie dolls, Hot Wheels, baby and teen apparel, and kitchenware. The trademarked line has been widely parodied by groups championing a variety of causes. In 2006, the campaign went after a new demographic with a series of Spanish language “Toma Leche?” On February 24, 2014, it was announced that the 20-year old slogan would be discontinued, in favor of a new tagline Y. ID X & Y (2 words each) 5
  • 10. Before the advent of modern-day technology in cricket, field umpires had little to rely on apart from their own instinct and judgment (No 3rd umpire, action replay, hawk-eye, snick-o-meter, etc.) Taking advantage of this shortcoming, the fielding side would often try to influence the umpire’s decision when appealing for a caught behind or a run-out. A common strategy was to start celebrating before the batsman was actually declared out by the umpire, causing the umpire to decide the verdict in their favour. This would generally start with the wicket-keeper/ fielder starting with a vociferous appeal, soon followed by the entire team celebrating in a manner that suggested that the batsman was indeed out, often prompting the desired decision from the umpire. By what term is this theory known as? 6
  • 11. The two black dots on this map, show the two possible locations where X exists. Give X. 7
  • 12. Rubie's Costume Company, New York, is the world's largest designer, manufacturer and distributor of Halloween costumes and accessories. The company sells well over 100,000 of this product every year, which is a best-seller on amazon.com, amazon.co.uk and amazon.de. Worn in protests against NATO, big banks and Big Brother in general, this product is made in Mexico or China and retails for $6.49, £5.16 or €10.50. WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange wore one, so did his girlfriend Lindsay Mills. It has been banned in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Canada. In the words of one reviewer on the site, it is "very useful to hide your identity from the public while you go about your anonymous deeds". Another interesting fact is for each of the aforementioned product sold, a cut of the profits goes to Warner Brothers, who own the copyrights to it. Simply identify the product. 8
  • 13. It’s written in a script called Tatsama. It forms the first of five stanzas of a Brahmo hymn composed and scored by a great Nobel laureate from India. It was falsely propagated by colonial authorities that the song was written and first sung to praise and felicitate a certain class of people on their visit to India. The originator of this song wrote down the English translation of the song and along with Margaret Cousins (an expert in European music and wife of Irish poet James Cousins), set down the notation at a particular place in Andhra Pradesh, which is followed only when the song is sung in the original slow rendition style of singing. What are we talking about ? 9

  • 16. This phrase owes its origin to the 1999 book "The Pragmatic Programmer" by Andrew Hunt and finds its existence in Software Engineering where many programmers have had the experience of explaining a programming problem to someone else, possibly even to someone who knows nothing about programming, and then hitting upon the solution in the process of explaining the problem. In describing what the code is supposed to do and observing what it actually does, any incongruity between these two becomes apparent. Also called “talking to the bear”, this phenomenon suggests that by making use of an inanimate object, the programmer can try to accomplish results without having to involve another person. What phrase is being explained here? 12
  • 17. During an interview, Jay Leno, an avid car and bike collector told the reporter of an incident when he was riding one of his prized possessions. This one had a custom-made personalized speaking LCD dash display and a scrolling LED sign on the back that said – CAUTION – EXTREMELY HOT – KEEP BACK. However, an overly curious car driver inched closer and closer to check out Leno’s ride at a stop light. What Leno saw next in the rear view camera was nothing short of shocking: the car’s front bumper had started to melt rapidly. Luckily for Leno, the lights soon turned green and he pulled away before a complete meltdown. What the hell was Jay Leno riding? 13
  • 18. An important figure in Native American mythology is the X, which represents the natural forces of lighting and thunder. Depictions of this creature can be found on several totem poles in various Native American cultures. Usually described as a huge bird, the X is large enough to carry off a whale to eat and to split open trees to find insects for food. The Algonquian people consider them to be ancestors of the human race, involved with the creation of the universe. A Lakota Sioux myth says that the great X Wakan Tanka was the grandson of the sky spirit that created the world and put people on it. But the water spirit Unktehi and her followers tried to drown them. Wakan Tanka came to fight Unktehi and sent lightning crashing to earth. The ground split open, and Unktehi and her followers drained into the cracks. ID X please. 14

  • 20. 16 In 1938, he went to Africa as employee of Shell Oil Company but when WWII broke, he signed-up with the RAF in Nairobi and learned to fly Tiger Moths. While flying an obsolete Gloster Gladiator, with some inaccurate coordinates in the Libyan desert, he ran out of daylight and fuel at the same time, and crashed and burned in no-man's-land. With a fractured skull and a bashed in nose, he was blind for some days, but six months later he joined 80 Squadron, that flew Hurricanes instead of Gladiators. With a mere 7 hours training on Hurricanes, he shot down two enemy bombers. Thereafter, he flew missions every day for 4 weeks, when he began to get blinding headaches and blackouts mid-air, whereupon he was invalided home to Britain. This marked the start of a second career, for which he is more famously remembered. Whom am I talking about?
  • 21. Pule cheese (pronounced pullay) is produced at only one location in the world and fetches the highest price of any cheese on earth. Made at the Zasavica Special Nature Preserve, pule is made from the endangered Balkan donkeys' milk and costs a whopping £800 per kg. It is said to take 25 litres of fresh donkey milk to make a single kilogram of the cheese, which the reserve claims is the most expensive in the world. The reserve also produces bottled donkeys' milk, which is said to have been a beauty secret of legendary Egyptian queen Cleopatra. Towards the end of 2012, it was reported that a certain individual had purchased the entire supply of pule cheese for the year 2013, which caused a massive surge in the popularity of pule worldwide. It was also reported that he allegedly spent a major chunk of his earnings from his entire last season, on this purchase, with the intention of using use it in his chain of restaurants — a rumour that later turned out to be false. Who is this famous individual? 17

  • 23. Zaha Hadid (in pic), considered one of the world's best female architects, has designed some architectural marvels in the last few years. Some of her recent works include the world’s largest airport passenger terminal in Beijing and the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku, Azerbaijan, amongst others. One of her creations however, has attracted a great deal of unwanted attention and criticism. What was inspired by the dhow boat that carried generations of local fishermen and pearl divers, has been slammed by critics as something that resembles a woman’s genitalia. Hadid, winner of the prestigious 2004 Pritzker Architecture Prize, retorted: ‘if a guy had done this project’ there wouldn't have been the same level of criticism. What controversial architecture is being talked about here? 19

This was soon amended, with the source for the powers now based upon the establishment of Krypton's gravity as having been stronger than that of the Earth. This situation mirrors that of Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter. As Superman's powers increased, the implication that all Kryptonians had possessed the same abilities became problematic for writers, making it doubtful that a race of such beings could have been wiped out by something as trifling as an exploding planet. In part to counter this, the Superman writers did something spectacular. What did they do ? 47
