The document argues that it is ignorant and pointless to claim that an entire music genre such as rap or metal "sucks". While musical tastes are subjective, genres contain a wide variety of styles and artists. Stereotypes that rap is only about money, drugs, and "bling" or that metal only features screaming and Satan worship are untrue and show a lack of understanding of the genres' diversity and artistic merit. The document aims to clear up common misconceptions about rap and metal through examples of intelligent rap lyrics and technical instrumental metal that requires skill.
1. LOL JK! Not All Rock/Metal Sucks – Not all Rap Sucks
2. I’m starting to get tired of all these videos on YouTube preaching that *insert genre here* - the most prominent being rap and metal – suck. These videos are extremely one-sided and biased. The creators of these videos usually point out the detrimental stereotypes of the genre to somehow create a logical connection on how the ENTIRE genre sucks. Which is just ignorant and gets redundant after a while.
3. In its own right, music in its most basic form is purely psychological. It reacts with other peoples’ minds/brains differently; some people enjoy the music they hear – others don’t. It’s pointless to go on bandwagons and campaign against an entire genre as a whole just because you heard some shitty song on the radio because you’re not going to change anything. It really just displays your ignorance. In this world, I think having a varied taste if the best kind of taste. I couldn’t stand limiting myself to only one genre of music.
4. In this video I’m going to give you a fair and accurate analysis of rap and metal. I’ll start with the former; it being the biggest offender in anti-genre videos.
5. Let’s clear common stereotypes that are associated with rap on a daily basis: All rap is about fucking bitches, getting money, living in the ghetto and bling. Anyone who believes this is just a complete idiot – straight up
6. Lyrically, hip-hop is probably the most intelligent genre there is. When you listen to some good MCs such as GZA, Raekwon, Common, The Roots, A Tribe Called Quest, and other various artists out there – the way they can intertwine verbal metaphors into a catchy badass beat is quite genius in its own right. That’s something a metal artist could NEVER do. MCing is an art that cannot be duplicated by those who are not associated with it.
7. Now comes the latter: metal. Common stereotypes with metal include it all being screaming, loud, worshiping Satan and taking no talent. Completely untrue and the aforementioned idiocy is applied here – too – if you believe any of that.
8. There are many metal bands who use no harsh vocals at all including: Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Pantera, Toxik, Black Sabbath, etc. Metal can be an extremely technical genre instrumental wise. MCs could never duplicate that art either as both are completely different.
9. Metal is a diverse genre, incorporating many different elements into it. Death metal is usually the most bashed metal genre because of the guttural vocals and “heaviness” of it. I used to hate death metal with a passion, mainly because of the vocals. But when you listen to it you become accustomed to the vocals and they grow on you.
10. To sum this shit up, bashing any genre or thinking you’re superior to someone because you listen to a different genre than them is just ridiculous.
